Writing and publishing Hugh's News if like fishing at a large lake. You never know what kind of fish you will catch, My favorite sport is fishing. I did a lot of it when my family and I lived in Anchorage, Alaska during my three-year tour at Elmendorf Air Force Base as a chaplain.
I have caught a few King Salmon that weighed 40 pounds, and some that weighed 25 pounds. What a fight a King Salmon can put up. It takes a lot of strength and patience to pull one that big into your boat.
It was a real joy and a personal delight to see Calvin Ballington again at our Men's Ministries Breakfast at our church in Athens, Georgia, Christian Life Worship Center, where Bad Cooper is our pastor. Ken Phillips, our director of Men's Ministries, welcomes men within driving distance to attend. Don McCann, a lay minister at Heritage Church in Bogart, GA, was our guest speaker. He is 83 years old. He shared about his career in sales and a supervisor of sales. He reminded us that we all have a ministry of speaking a kind word to people we meet. When Ken Phillips was hospitalized recently at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, Don McCann visited him. He asked Ken if he could pray with him, and of course Ken welcomed his prayer. Don and his wife volunteer to work with the director of chaplains at Athens Regional Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital. At the close of the meeting, Ken received prayer requests and Pastor Brad Cooper prayed a power prayer for those for whom prayer was requested. What an uplifting Saturday morning, and we all went to our respective homes renewed in spirit.
Calvin Ballington is a graduate of Emmanuel College and attended Emmanuel with Lavon Revells, and Janice Robinson, and others I could name. Of course Lavon married Arlette Revells, and Janice married Wesley Russ.
I was pleased to receive from Calvin Ballington an old Advocate dated 1972 which was dedicated to our military chaplains and their respective ministries. On the front page is a large photo of Chaplain (Colonel) Freeman Mashburn and his commanding General at the Red Stone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama with his family.
By the way, Calvin Ballington is a member of the Lawrenceville Church of God.
