All of us have heard that history often repeats itself. Well, it is true. The daughter of a former associate pastor at Tarkenton Memorial Church, Callie Sorrow, and a recent graduate of Emmanuel College will be preaching at Christian Life Worship Center in Athens this Sunday morning, July 24, at 11 o'clock. The church was called Tarkenton Memorial Church when I was the pastor in the 80s and 90s. Christy Beatty was my associate pastor for two years in preparation to meet the pastoral leadership requirements for the Air Force Chaplaincy.
In the meantime, Christy and a young man by the name of Rick Sorrow met in church and fell in love and were married. In fact, Rick's mother, Polly Allen Sorrow, died and was buried on Wednesday and Rick and Christy went though with their wedding plans on Saturday. Dr. G. Earl Beatty, Christy's father, and I performed the wedding ceremony.
In correspondence with Callie via email, I asked if she qualified as a millennial. She was born June 25, 1994, at Scott AFB, Illinois when her mother served as an Air Force chaplain there. Here is what Callie Sorrow so eloquently wrote in response to my inquiry:
"I think I am a millennial determined to stir up my peers to greatness. Meaning, my generation and those following me have more potential to change the world than any generation before us. If we will simply harness the power of our mental and physical health, technology, youthful drive, determination, and passion and use it for the glory of God and the sake of His Kingdom who knows what we can accomplish? We simply have to get outside the "selfie" driven mindset of our age, flip the camera around to see what's waiting just on the other side and then do something."
Let me welcome you to come to Christian Life Worship Center, formerly Tarkenton Memorial Church, and hear Callie Sorrow preach. You can be a great source of encouragement to this young lady preacher, and who knows what God has in store for her life, as well as yours.
Christian Life Worship Center is located at 125 Kathwood Drive, Athens, Georgia 30607. It is located just off US 129 Highway one mile northwest of the perimeter of Athens going toward Jefferson, GA.
You will be blessed and this Sunday, Charles Till will be leading the singing and directing our choir of men and women who will be singing the old-fashioned Gospel songs and hymns that our people dearly love. We are expecting the old-time power of the Holy Spirit to descend upon us as we sing and worship.
Ya'll Come!
