I had opportunity to look on a wall in the entrance hallway of our home the other day. I noticed two Scripture verses encased in appropriate picture frames that Melvine had placed there. The first Scripture is: 2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." NKJV The second Scripture is: Joshua 24:15 “ . . .but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. NKJV What a powerful impact that made on me. I sat there in the seat of my rollator walker and thanked God once again for a Godly wife who loved Jesus supremely, and put Him first everyday of her life. My life, and the lives of our children, Greg and Stephanie, were the recipients her unfailing love, towering faith in God and in His Son Jesus Christ. I am reminded of a Scripture that I memorized early in my life, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6, NKJV). Melvine was an outstanding Bible teacher. She knew how to impart knowledge to her classes and in the process welcomed humor and laughter to make learning a pleasant experience. I will be eternally grateful to God for giving me such an incredible wife and loving mother of our children. Thank you for the privilege of serving you as editor of Hugh’s News. It is difficult for me to believe, but it is true, I have been given the extraordinary opportunity to serve all of you for 23 years as the editor of Hugh’s News. Hugh's News is the electronic flagship of communications serving IPHC ministries and the body of Christ worldwide. I never dreamed I would be a Christian journalist. Although I had many opportunities to write in my ministry as a pastor, Air Force chaplain, college president, and director/endorser of Chaplains Ministries, IPHC, I saw a need to communicate the news of our church, and I decided to fill that need to be a blessing to our people. Throughout these 23 years you have been gracious to participate in what the Apostle Paul wrote in the Book of Philippians 4:15, ”Now you Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the Gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but you only” (NKJV). Giving and receiving is a divine principle God has established in His Word, the Holy Bible. I want to thank you for giving and receiving to and from Hugh’s News. For every newsletter, I do it as a seed of faith that I am sowing and believing God for a hundredfold harvest. Open Your Heart to God Author: Anne Graham Lotz "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me" (Psalm 139:23-24, NKJV). Have you erected a shield around your heart? A shield . . . of pride or doubt or shame or anger? Did you think that if you opened your heart and let God see inside, that He would blame you for what you have or haven’t done? Or rebuke you for your lack of faith? You and I can be so foolish! Why do we think we can hide our feelings from God? Why would we want to hide our feelings from God? Would you open up your heart and show it to Him? Let Him see exactly how you feel and what you think. Don’t hide it or repress it or cover it up or pretend it’s not there. Just pour it all out to Him, and then wait expectantly for His response. The Art of Successful Letter Writing Author: Hugh H. Morgan In reading the personal letter of the Apostle Paul to his own convert Philemon after reading it many times in my 87 years, I discovered something that I had forgotten or maybe never knew. It has been reported by numerous Biblical scholars and even critics that this letter to Philemon with only 25 verses is indeed a masterpiece of letter writing. It may be said that it is the template for the best in writing personal letters. Today, we don’t write letters like we use to. We use emails, texts, or social media. The Apostle Paul is in a prison in Rome. He says he is now aged and a prisoner of Jesus Christ. He has been imprisoned for preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the midst of it all, God is not unmindful of Paul’s particular situation. In the providence of God, a runaway slave who is also a thief, found his way to find Paul in the prison. His name is Onesimus. Nothing happens by accident in God’s economy. Paul wins Onesimus to Christ and began the process of discipling him. The date of writing this letter is about A.D. 62. In that day, slavery was one of the curses of the Roman Empire and helped to bring about its destruction. The historian Gibbon reported that one-half of the population of the Roman Empire were slaves. Roman Law declared that slaves had no rights, and they were at best objects not persons under the authority of their owner. For a slave to run away and steal he positioned himself to be punished by death. Onesimus was not only a runaway slave, but he was a thief. He apparently has stolen from his master Philemon who was a Christian, who was a convert of Paul. Paul writes to Philemon to appeal to him to receive Onesimus not as a servant but above a servant, a brother in Christ. He has served Paul well, and he believes it is fitting and proper to send him back, not as the old servant, but brand-new and better than before. He goes further to state that if Onesimus has wronged Philemon, or owes him anything to credit that to Paul’s account. He will repay it. It is interesting that Paul doesn’t use the word for slavery, but the whole spirit of Paul’s letter carries the spirit of being opposed to slavery. When God saves a sinner no matter how far in sin he has gone, God charges up to the sinner’s account His perfect righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ. I now want to encourage you to read the Book of Philemon in the New Testament. It comes after the Book of Titus. We Are Wonderfully Made Author: Anne Graham Lotz "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14, NIV). We can only imagine the concentrated thoughts that occupied the divine Mind and the gentle, skillful touch of the divine Hand that first shaped man from the dust. Where did the Creator begin? Did He start with a skeletal frame? Did He then cover it with an outside layer of skin, which at no place is thicker than three-sixteenths of an inch, is packed with nerve endings to enable man to feel the outside world, and is virtually waterproof? Into the skin stretched over the frame did He next place the heart that pumps seventy-two times a minute, forty million times a year? When did He hang the lungs in their sealed compartments so that the rivers of blood necessary for life can deposit the carbon dioxide and pick up oxygen to be carried to every single one of the more than twenty-six trillion cells in the body? When did He place the brain inside the bony skull and program it to send messages that travel faster than three hundred miles an hour along the nervous system to the entire body? Truly, we are fearfully and wonderfully and lovingly and personally created by an awe-inspiring, loving Creator! A game hunter went on safari with his wife and mother in law.
One morning, while deep in the forest, the wife awoke to find her mother gone. Rushing to her husband, she insisted on them both trying to find her mother. The hunter picked up his rifle and started to look for her. In a clearing not far from the camp, they came upon a chilling sight: the mother-in-law was backed up against a big rock, and a large lion stood right in front of her. The wife cried, "What are we going to do?" "Nothing," said the hunter husband. "The lion got himself into this mess, let him get himself out of it." C., organized and planned by Franklin Graham, the President of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. I hope you were able to see it on live streaming as I did.
It was videoed by the TBN Network. It was hosted by Governor Mike Huckabee and Cissie Graham Lynch, the daughter of Franklin Graham. In every respect, it was professionally done. They had prepared well, scripts were written, and Mike and Cissie spoke fluently in conversation describing the event and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as the Son of God, and Savior of the world. Franklin Graham is a gifted leader. I believe God has chosen him to continue the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as president. In addition, he is the founder and CEO of Samaritan's purse, a great Christian humanitarian relief organization that is ministering to thousands in times of crisis and natural disasters.. It was reported that some 50,000 were in attendance in Washington, D.C. It was a beautiful day. I will not try to name those who spoke and prayed. I will mention, however, that Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, the second lady were present. Mike Pence brought greetings from President Donald J. Trump, and the first lady, Melania. He read a Scripture and offered a moving prayer. If you were not able to see and enjoy it, you can watch a replay of the entire event—including remarks by Franklin Graham, Vice President Mike Pence and many others—online now. Please share this link with your friends, family and church. WATCH REPLAY Below I have furnished you once again with the march route and the stops with specific prayers for each one Franklin Graham wrote, "As we look forward to what God will do, we ask that you please keep praying for His mercy, protection and guidance in the days ahead. Together, let’s pray without ceasing for God’s forgiveness, healing and intervention in our divided nation. Fruit for Your Children Author: Anne Graham Lotz "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control"(Galatians 5:22, NIV). The New Testament describes the characteristics of Christ that are to be revealed in our lives as spiritual “fruit.” Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control is the fruit of the Spirit that ought to be bountifully present in our homes. What kind of “fruit” are your children eating within your home? Does their “diet” consist of nagging, complaining, anger, bickering, gossip, impatience, meanness, selfishness, and rudeness? Or are they learning to be loving when someone is not lovable, to have joy when life is not fun, to have peace in the midst of pressure, to be kind when treated roughly, to be unselfish when they don’t get their way, to forgive when they are wronged? How easy do you make it for your children to “eat healthy”? Our homes should be places of rich, bountiful, moral, and spiritual teaching for our children. But that is only possible if we ourselves are moral and spiritual people, fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 20 Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. NKJV Albert Einstein used to go to dinners where he was invited to give a speech.
One day, on his way to one of those dinners, he told his chauffeur (who looked exactly like him) that he was dead tired of giving the same speech, dinner after dinner. "Well," said the chauffeur, "I've got a good idea. Why don't I give the speech since I've heard it so many times?'' So Albert's chauffeur gave the speech perfectly and even answered a few questions. Then, a professor stood up and asked him a really tough question about anti-matter which the chauffeur couldn't answer. "Sir, the answer to your question is so easy that I'll let my chauffeur answer it!" To watch this special video by Jonathan Cahn, please click the link in red fonts below: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn9wlzsFKzc&feature=emb_logo Pat Boone Joins 'The Return,' Says God Wants Church's Attention COVID-19, racial tension, nightly protests and riots, and a contentious election season are proving America's need for a grassroots movement already underway, known as "The Return: National and Global Day of Prayer and Repentance," which is attracting the support of evangelical voices like Pat Boone and many others. "The Return" is set for 40 days before the presidential election, and on the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower, in the days of America's founding and dedication to God. Surrounding the "The Day of Return" on Sept. 26 at the Washington Mall will be 10 days, known from ancient times as the Days of Awe, to be set as a special time of prayer and repentance from Sept. 18-28. Pastor Kevin Jessip and New York Times' bestselling author Jonathan Cahn, co-chairs of "The Return," have been joined by many Christian leaders as they call America to profound and lasting repentance. Among them is American music icon Pat Boone, who says the tumult of our times may be God's way of getting the church's attention. "I think God is trying to get through to us," Boone said. "I think the church, that is, the body of those who believe in God as Creator, the one who created all of us equal with certain inalienable rights—this is in the Declaration of Independence, and our government is founded, our country is founded on this. We all are equal in God's sight, and we have the right to pursue happiness, not the guarantee of it, but the right to pursue happiness equally, and our nation flourished when we were a nation under God." Boone suggests the need for repentance is evidenced by the price America is paying in the present era of economic and civil strife. "Now we can hardly claim to truly be a nation under God, and we're paying the consequences of that," Boone said. Boone isn't the only American faith leader who sees the nation as slipping away from its historic God-fearing mooring. Pastor Kevin Jessip points to believers east and west who crave America's turnaround. "All over this nation, Christians are praying for revival," Jessip said. "We have been warned," Jessip continued. "God in His mercy has afforded us a time of reprieve to turn and repent for our land to be spared from destruction. It's a Nineveh moment! 'The Return' is a chance for America, 40 days prior to our next election, to turn back to God, just like Nineveh. 'The Return' is the spark of a movement to gather, fast, pray and repent for our wickedness." Co-chairs of "The Return" Jonathan Cahn and Kevin Jessip were both moved by the Lord with a message of repentance for our nation. Cahn has recorded a special video about the event, which already has nearly 2 million views. In addition, online resources are available, including videos and downloads for individuals, pastors and churches. Daily devotionals also encourage personal repentance and consecration. "The Return" is for all believers who love the Lord from all denominations and backgrounds. Leaders already on board with "The Return" include Jonathan Cahn and Kevin Jessip (co-chairs), Mike Lindell, Michele Bachmann, Pat Boone, Dr. James Dobson, Mark Gonzales, Robert Morris, Marcus Lamb, John Kilpatrick, Pierre Bynum, Gen. William Boykin, Carter Conlon, Bishop Harry Jackson, Alveda King, Anne Graham Lotz, Pat and Gordon Robertson, Kevin and Sam Sorbo, Stephen E. Strang, E. W. Jackson and many more supporters listed at thereturn.org/faith-leaders/. Coordinated events within "The Return" movement will also take place throughout America's cities, towns, houses of worship and homes, as well as in multiple countries around the world, as many believe the nation has been given a critical window of opportunity to repent and return to God. The following Christian organizations are partners of "The Return":10 Days, All Pro Pastors International, America's National Prayer Committee, Anne Graham Lotz & Angel Ministries, Assemblies of God, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Bless Every Home, Calvary Chapel and Capitol Hill Prayer Partners.
