The Rev. Mr. Clifford M. Sampier, former superintendent of the Colorado (Rocky Mountain) Conference, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2017 in Littleton, Colorado. Rev. Sampier grew up in a Pentecostal Holiness Church in Clayton, New Mexico. He was one of the first students to enroll in Southwestern Bible College and was a member of the first graduating class. While in school, he met and married Ruth Sexton of Tarboro, North Carolina, in 1948. As a young man, Sampier pastored the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Yukon, Oklahoma, for over six years and served at the First Church in Oklahoma City for ten years. During his tenure, both congregations experienced growth and erected new buildings. Sampier also served the Department of Evangelism as a general evangelist, preaching at camp meetings and encouraging smaller conferences. In 1968 he was nominated by the General Executive Board as superintendent of the Colorado Conference, a position he held for 10 years. Sampier again served as conference superintendent from 1987-1994. While in Colorado, Rev. Sampier pastored several churches including Cherry Hills Church and Northglenn Church. The International Pentecostal Holiness Church is very thankful for Rev. Sampier’s life of dedication and service. Pastor Clifford is survived by his loving family: sons, Pastor Gregory H. Sampier, and Grant (Lannette) Sampier; grandchildren, Stephen (Nina) Sampier, Nicole Sampier, Lindsey (Justin) Baker, Stephanie (Adam) Zaleski; great grandchildren, Cade, Brooke, Kate, Kinsley and baby Levi on the way, also several nieces and nephews; and former daughter-in-law, Cynthia Sampier whom he dearly loved. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sampier; parents, Francis and Mary Sampier; sisters Clarece and Cleta; and by daughter-in-law, Karen Sampier who was more like his own daughter. Services for Rev. Sampier will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. and are under the direction of Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, Cemetery and Arboretum. [Editor's Comment: I was privileged to meet Clifford Sampier when I became the third president of Southwestern College. The first two presidents were Dr. R. O. Corvin and Dr. W. R. Corvin. I found Clifford to be kind, cordial, genuine, and gracious. I have been given permission from Presiding Bishop Doug Beacham to reprint articles that appear on our IPHC website, www.iphc.org. That's a good place to go to get the news. It was Hugh Hoyle who notified me of the death of Clifford Sampier. Hugh Hoyle is one of the most reliable and responsible reporters I know. May God bless Hugh and Lady Lois.] Your unrelenting prayers are making a significant difference in the lives of Bishop Wesley and Janice Robinson Russ. Janice is home recovering from double pneumonia. However, Wesley has come down with the flu, big time. I talked with him briefly on Thursday afternoon and prayed for him and Janice as I spoke with him on the telephone. You may wish to send them get-well cards. Your care of them by your tokens of love are vital to their healing process. Wesley and Janice Russ 4100 Kenny Street Beltsville, MD 20705-2732 We are believing that Janice will be totally healed and will experience glowing health (Daniel 2:23, The Living Bible). What God did for President Jimmy Carter He can do for Janice. The same drug has been administered to both of them. More importantly God is using this drug and the antibiotics to bring about the much-needed healing for Janice. Hebrews 4:16 6 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. NKJV --presence-chamber, n. The room in which a great personage, as a sovereign, receives company of those entitled to come into His presence. Presence chamber speaks of the privilege of coming into the presence of God through our relationship with Christ, our Lord. It brings to mind the Garden of Eden, that first place of divine presence--and of human distance. But it has to be the Jewish Tabernacle, with its presence room, that shows that relationship best. Even so, the Most Holy Place where Jehovah's presence was celebrated by the children of Israel had a veil. Beyond it the High Priest was admitted alone--and that once a year. Jesus' death, resurrection, and ascension celebrated your privilege--and mine--of coming "boldly unto the throne of grace." The sacrifice of Christ provided a "new and living way" of coming into the presence of God. Afterglow: What a joy to be able to enter God's presence. We know that although God is invisible, through prayer we are made aware of His presence and find joy. Access by Faith Thank you Lord, that faith's journey leads to your gates, into your courts and into Your Presence Room. Thank You for extending, not only Your royal septer, like a shepherd's staff, but for offering me Your hand. To come into Your presence is to come into selahs in the Psalms and feel the music in the rests. Amen. There was a near-capacity crowd for what quickly became a truly special occasion. The assembly was blessed by the Ministry of LaVerne and Edith Tripp, alumni and faithful supporters of Holmes. In the picture below, President and Mrs. Leggett enjoyed the presence of his brothers (Roger and Ralph) and all four of their children (Jimmy, Cindy, Joey, and John.) As the evening progressed, three new awards were instituted; these will be recurring awards presented every year from now on. 2017 Awards are: Alumnus of the Year: Bishop Jim Whitfield Missionaries of the Year: Hobert and Marguerite Howard Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. James D. Leggett We thank God for the lives and ministries of these precious people. The influence they have had on others extends far beyond our perception. Truly, as is often said, only heaven will reveal those blessed by these faithful servants of the Lord!

Daniel de Marbelle, 1887 You may listen to the golden voice of Ernie Ford sing this glorious song that I think it one of the best songs I ever heard as a child growing up in the church. Click Here to access this song.
Jack Hayford is arguably the most-respected Pentecostal leader of our generation. In 2005, Christianity Today magazine called him "the Pentecostal Gold Standard" on its cover. (By the way, they pulled that from a quote from me used in the article. When the author interviewed me, that was my genuine assessment of this great man of God. I never imagined the magazine's editors would decide it made a great cover line!) Apart from God's grace, there is another reason Jack Hayford has been successful in the ministry—Anna Marie Hayford, his wife of 62 years, whom they laid to rest last week in Los Angeles. I had the privilege of attending her three-hour-long memorial service at a packed-out Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California. Family members and friends shared variations of the same statement: There never would have been a Jack Hayford (as we know him) or The Church On The Way without Anna's steady influence. Because of my long and close relationship with the Hayfords, I knew firsthand that what they said about her was true. She was simple, practical and comfortable in any setting—whether spending time with ordinary people like the farmers she grew up with In Nebraska or attending a state dinner with her famous husband. Jack and Anna's oldest daughter, Rebecca Bauer, summed it up best: "She was simple, but classy," adding that her mother brought sparkle wherever she went. And although she was known for her quiet demeanor, the family knew she was sometimes "sassy" in an endearing sort of way. Anna was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer a little more than a year ago. That she lived this long was a miracle, something I wrote about last August. When she breathed her last on March 8 at 3 a.m., her husband held her hand. At the same time on the east coast, I thought about Anna and decided to call later that day to see how she was doing. At her memorial service, Pastor Hayford, in his inimitable style, told mourners how he and Anna fell in love as Bible college students in the early 1950s. He even spoke of how they locked fingers in a special way the first time they held hands. As she lay in a coma, dying, they locked fingers the same way once again as she passed into eternity. "Anna made me the most blessed husband who ever lived," he said. "I could have had no greater gift for the life we led, and I can't imagine a more fulfilling life than we led." He also shared a page from his journal on Feb. 7—29 days before she died—in which the Lord told him to prepare to "escort your lady into My presence." For those accustomed to hearing Pastor Hayford expound on truths in the Word, this journal entry, in which he described the love of his life, was a peek into his heart. I could write so much more about Anna Hayford, including quotes of the many warm, loving memories shared at her funeral. You can read more about her life here. Suffice it to say she was a woman who loved God and served Him, her family and her church with all her heart. She will be remembered long for the legacy she left. Isn't that what each of us should want when our time on Earth ends? With his permission, I will close by sharing what Pastor Hayford wrote in his journal on Feb. 7, 2017: From this day, escort your lady into My presence. I gave her to you for the mission, journey, joy, family and fruitful service of My people and the advance of My Kingdom. You have been faithful to one another just as you have been to My call and the work it has required. Your journey together on Earth is drawing to a close. I will shortly take her into my eternal presence; give yourself and your time to her lavishly—preparing for the joy that is set for her. I will not leave you without comfort and care when she leaves; indeed, as you have clearly seen, I have been preparing the way for your tomorrows until I bring you into My eternal presence. Rest and rejoice—your God and Savior are with you and moving before you. Steve Strang is the founder of Charisma and CEO of Charisma Media. Follow him on Twitter or Facebook. The Lord has blessed the college with the most significant gift it has ever received. Ms. Grace Ellenberg, who had already given $500,000 toward the construction of the Ellenberg Student Center has left to the college such a substantial fund as to enable us to complete construction of this facility to include our cafeteria and the student activity room. The gift will also enable us to start construction on the Freeman-Duncan Girls' Dorm. We had some funds given for this project, but the 'gift' will enable us to complete this much-needed space for the girls. The gift will also enable us to pay off the indebtedness on the Paul F. Beacham Learning Center for which we have been making payments for nine years. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! The faculty, staff and students have been praying through the years for this debt to be paid. They have been praying this year for the funds to finish the student center and to start the Freeman-Duncan Dorm. God has answered prayer. Ms. Grace, who loved Holmes and felt so indebted to it has given a miraculous gift so that Holmes will continue to equip men and women for ministry. I have a letter in my file from Dr. Beacham in 1973 regarding my giving the address for the opening of school. He wrote, "we have sixty apartments at the college and there is no indebtedness." Thank you, Ms. Grace. The beautiful new campus is debt-free! Progress on Ellenberg Student Center and Cafeteria We expect to be using the lovely Ellenberg Student Center and Cafeteria by the start of the 2017-2018 school year! Funds are now available for its completion and progress is being made daily. (See below for a story about Ms. Ellenberg.) Ground-breaking for Women's Residence Hall It was a joyous time during Founder's Memorial Week as we broke ground for the much-needed Freeman-Duncan Women's Residence Hall! Below are pictures of the Board of Trustees and several members of the Freeman-Duncan families who were present and who participated in the ground-breaking ceremony. We thank God for all He is doing at Holmes. He has put His divine stamp of approval on the progress the school has made, and has assured us that He will continue to bless. Grace Miriam Ellenberg (May 28, 1921-November 29, 2016) Ms. Ellenberg is pictured here as she would have looked during her student years at Holmes. She graduated from Holmes in 1938, and always felt that this school meant more to her life than any other college she attended--a list of institutions that included Duke University and the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She often called Holmes her "boot camp." Listen to her comments on those years: "One thing that Holmes taught me very deeply was to love God's Word. That has stayed with me all these years, and I think I can safely say that I hunger and thirst after a better knowledge of my Bible. "I had the good fortune, after Holmes, to go on to other schools, some even prestigious, but I put them up against what I learned at a small school, where we had to turn off the lights or we would be called before the president. It was a little school, where I heated my room with the chips from the woodpile where the boys cut wood for the city. "I wanted to be sure to say that the good education I received at great schools after it, I would not swap at all for those three years I spent at Holmes. Nobody could buy that, because it changed my life. "I always felt indebted to somehow pay my debt to Holmes. I do not consider that this was a donation; it was partial payment of a big debt." He has wisely chosen to lead Emmanuel College on his knees. The Bible says, "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" ( James 5:16, NKJV). Let us join with Dr. Ron White in daily prayers for Emmanuel College and for Dr. White and Carol, his wife. Here is what Dr. Ron White wrote on Wednesday, March 22, 2017: Those Who Work Hard "Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper" (Proverbs 13:4, NLT). President Emmanuel College Franklin Springs, GA 30639 706.245.2803 It is with a sense of joy and praise to God for his grace and healing power that I can announce to you that Janice Robinson Russ is back at home in Beltsville, Maryland. Janice has responded beautifully to the antibiotics the doctors were giving her. The doctors at Holy Cross Hospital released her to go home. It is a seven-day treatment plan. That number seven is Biblical. We will receive every healing virtue God sends to Janice. It's been as long haul, but hopefully she is nearing the finishing line when her health will be full restore. Our prayers are being heard in heaven. The year 2017 is the year of the Breakthrough with signs, miracles and wonders. Let us all through the eyes of faith in Almighty God make room for a season of plenty---which includes healing that God gives. We will rejoice and be glad. I sense there is the Healer in the house. We believe that there is a Balm in Gilead. His Name is Jesus! We thank You, Jesus! Isaiah 58:8-9
8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I am.' Unable to attend the game, his father immediately wanted to know what happened. “So, how did you do son?” he asked.
“You’ll never believe it!” Billy said. “I was responsible for the winning run!” “Really? How’d you do that?” “I dropped the ball.” Comments: Marguerite Howard came through left hip replacement surgery Monday, March 20, with success3/22/2017 Jolene Pope Maxwell

We all like to hear good news. Janice Robinson Russ is responding nicely to the antibiotics for double pneumonia. She is doing so well that Wesley, her husband, told me on Tuesday the doctors may allow Janice to go home today, Wednesday, March 22. There is no place like home. Hospitals are great when you need them. Melvine and I want to thank you for your continued prayers for the healing for Janice. I believe God can do a creative miracle for her, i. e., it it is will. We want the best for our sister in Christ. When we pray for Janice, let us not forget Wesley. He is the prime caregiver and is doing a great job. You may wish to send Janice a get-well card. I know it will brighten her day and add to her faith for her healing.
