For every command you give her, she’ll simply reply, “yes master.” She’ll clean your house, and tend to your every desire.” Adam had a sparkle in his eye and said with excitement, “Wow, that sounds amazing. I’d really like to have something like that. But what’s it going to cost me?” The angel said, “Well Adam, it’s going to cost you your right arm, and a leg.” Adam thought about it for a while, and then replied, “What can I get for just a rib?”
One day an angel appeared to Adam. The angel said, “Adam, I’ve got great news. God is going to create something wonderful for you.” Adam said, “Oh, what is it? The angel said, “It’s not an “it,” it’s a “she.” God is going to make something called a woman.” Adam said, “Go on.” The angel continued, “This is going to be wonderful. This woman will be made to be a lot like you physically, only much more beautiful. She will live to serve you at all times. When you are tired, she’ll give you a massage. When you are hungry, she’ll feed you. She’ll come and bow down to you in the morning and when you return from working in the garden in the evening.
She’ll live to serve your every pleasure each day.” “In addition,” the angel continued, “she will never argue with you or complain. She wont nag you or talk back to you either. Dad had a much better day today. He was finally put on a liquid diet which made all of us happy. He had chicken broth, Jell-O, a Popsicle, grape juice and iced tea. That would not be my choice of food, but I guess when you haven’t eaten for three days that sounds good. Once again friends from Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, Georgia came to visit. I realized that all of the visitors today are also graduates of Emmanuel College. I thought that was interesting. Our pastor, Chaplain Terry Kesling and his wife Pam, Ken and Jeanette Phillips, and Joyce Hawkins, all came to see dad. It was great for our family to visit with them. We still don’t know how much longer dad will be in the hospital, but we should find out tomorrow. He is supposed to have rehab for his hip replacement after he leaves. We are praying that he will go to the best facility. It depends on his insurance and the availability of any of the rehab centers in our area. I will keep you posted. God bless, Greg Mother and I just got back from St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia. We were there for several hours visiting my dad, Hugh Morgan. Although dad still cannot eat or drink, he is better. They are still pumping fluid out of his stomach, but it looks like the process will naturally end soon and he will then be able to eat things like soup and Jell-O. He will then graduate to bigger meals. Dad had some visitors from church today. Jim and Audrey Cox were with us for about an hour, and shortly after they left Ian and Paulette Johnson came. We had excellent conversations with everyone. It is really nice to have a good church family. Jeanette (Herndon) Phillips was out of town today, but she took the time to call us today, which was also special. Each day that dad has been at the hospital, he has had different nurses and nurse technicians. All of them have been excellent, but suffice it to say we have met a lot of the hospital staff. Dad’s nurse today was Gary Jokowsky. He told my father that he looked familiar. After talking for a while we discovered that Gary used to be an ordained IPHC minister in the Georgia Conference. Wow! It’s a small world (after all)! Yet another physician came to the room and said that one of the reasons for all of the fluid in dad’s stomach was due to the fact that his “bowels went to sleep” during surgery and haven’t fully “woken” back up. Both the physical therapist and the occupational therapist came for the first time this morning. They were able to help dad move around some, walk, do a few leg exercises, and go to the bathroom on his own. I think that was a lot of major stuff compared to seeing dad just stuck in bed for a couple of days. So, that was definitely another positive thing that happened today. Once again, thank you all for your prayers. I will continue to keep you posted. God bless you, Greg PS: I did not know until today that the remaining Catholic nun, Sister Sheila, once again prayed for dad before he went into surgery. He said that her prayer was “packed with theology” and he agreed with her 100 percent. Thank God for all of our Christian brothers and sisters and for all of their prayers on our behalf! Although my father, Hugh Morgan, came through his hip replacement surgery well yesterday, he had some unexpected stomach problems today. He was supposed to have begun physical therapy today, but was unable to due to being quite sick to his stomach. He had to finally get a tube placed in his nose that was attached to a type of container, which emptied his stomach. The good thing about that is that he stopped vomiting, however, the bad part is that he has not been able to either eat nor drink all day. In fact, he has had to use pre-moistened swabs to suck on to give him some relief from having a dry mouth. Please pray for a speedy recover for dad’s stomach as he must have physical therapy, and sooner than later is better. Pray for his comfort too as he must remain in bed causing him to have any relief in terms of being able to get up and move around. Please pray for my mother, Melvine Morgan, and me as we will be by his bedside as much as possible this weekend and perhaps next week. We are glad that God still answers prayer and that He still heals! Many thanks, Greg Thank you Hugh’s News readers for your prayers for my father’s surgery today. It is comforting to know that people in North America, and in fact all over the world have been praying. Dad’s surgery was a little later in the morning and he did not get back to his room until late in the afternoon. Ken and Jeanette (Herndon) Phillips were with mom and dad all day. Our new pastor, Chaplain Terry Kesling waited with everyone most of the day as well. I was especially relieved that mother had the support of our dear friends, since I taught school today. My students have severe autism and I felt like I should have been with them for their first day back to school after the Christmas break. According to my father’s wonderful recovery room nurse, dad will have a break tonight and get to sleep and relax. However, tomorrow the physical therapist will have him up and walking. I am thankful for St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia. There is definitely a Christian spirit in the building. All of the associates are friendly and helpful. Please continue to keep my father, and my mother, in your prayers. I will keep you posted. Many blessings, Greg In 1970-1971, I was blessed to receive an Air Force Institute of Technology Scholarship to do an internship in Clinical Pastoral Care at Herman Hospital in Houston, TX. Herman Hospital is a teaching hospital for the University of Texas Medical School.
One of our general surgeons told us in a class he taught that there are two kinds of surgeries: Major and Minor. What they do on others is minor. You've gotten it, I can tell, what Dr. Mahoney will do today in a total right hip replacement for me is Major surgery. Yesterday, Wednesday, January 3, 2018, I received a call from St. Mary's Hospital from the lady who is in charge of scheduling the surgeries for the day. I was instructed to be at St Mary's Hospital in Athens, Georgia at 9:30 today, Thursday, January 4, 2017. Melvine will drive me in her car. I am glad it is later in the day and not at 5:30 a. m. Rick Hurst used to say this about sunrises: "If God wanted more people to see the Sunrise I think He would have scheduled it for later in the day." Many of us will agree. I am so blessed. Several of my friends who read Hugh's News daily called and prayed with me over the phone. What a wonderful thing that is. Each person prayed from his/her heart with compassion and love and asked for God's favor to be given to me this day of surgery. I am always amazed and blessed when people pray from their heart and select words that are fitting and appropriate for the occasion. I can tell you I felt loved by each one who prayed for me, and I felt the love of God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the communion of the Holy Spirit. It is a wonderful thing to know that I am a Christian. I was born again at the age of six. Now I am 85, and since that glorious day I was saved, I have walked with the Lord. I have endeavored to keep short accounts with God. Whenever I would sin, I have immediately confessed my sin to God, and where possible made amends with those I have injured. I love Daniel's prayer in the second chapter of the Book of Daniel. He concludes his prayer by thanking God for wisdom, and glowing health (Daniel 2:23, The Living Bible). Let me quote it for you: Daniel 2:23 I thank and praise You, O God of my fathers, for You have given me wisdom and glowing health, and now even this vision of the king's dream and the understanding of what it means." TLB The very first thought I had about a benediction today was King David's Psalm 23. It says it all for me.
Psalm 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. KJV +++++++++++ Psalm 23 God, my Shepherd! I don't need a thing. 2 You have bedded me down in lush meadows, You find me quiet pools to drink from. 3 True to Your Word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. 4 Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I'm not afraid when You walk at my side. Your trusty Shepherd's crook makes me feel secure. 5 You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. 6 Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I'm back home in the house of God for the rest of my life. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.) There was an unexpected knock on my door, and like I always do I first opened the peephole and asked, "Who's there?"
"Parcel post, ma'am. I have a package that needs a signature." "Where's the package?" I asked suspiciously. The deliveryman held it up. "Could I see some ID?" I said, still not convinced. "Lady," he replied wearily, "if I wanted to break into your house, I'd probably just use these." And he pulled out the keys I had left in the door. I received 10 letters on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Two persons have sent a $2 bill. Many have sent $1 bills. One new subscriber, a Christian lady, told me that she seldom carries cash money in her pocktbook. She used her credit card as a debit card. She found that she had four $1 bills and she gave them all to Hugh's News, Inc. That blessed me. Some, have sent checks for $10, $20, $25, and $100. My appeal for you my dear readers to give $1 to Hugh's News, Inc. has caught on and you folks are amazing me with your generosity. Thank the Lord and you because we finished 2017 in the Black. Now, I have new bills to pay in 2018, and I like to pay them on time, or a little before they are due. I want to encourage you to keep on giving so I can continue to provide the best in Christian journalism for you my fellow members of the IPHC and the Body of Christ worldwide. By the way we receive a letter from Hawaii in this latest appeal. 2018 will be a year of plenty. May God grant us wisdom in managing the financial resources He will entrust to us. E. L. Baker has just posted a comment on your blog post, IPHC Remembers the Rev. Mr. King White, Sr.1/3/2018 King White was my friend and brother and I loved him and his family. I remember preaching conference events when was superintendent in Pennsylvania. King was indeed a leader of men and a skilled man of the Word of God. Until we meet again we know "He yet speaks." Prayer and comfort to his dear wife and loved ones. [Editor's Comment: Leroy Baker is known as E. L. Baker. He is a gifted preacher and I call him Mr. Camp Meeting Preacher. During these winter months, he and Evelyn are ministering in the Rio Grande to Snow Birds in resort site for motor homes and travel campers from the north who spend their winters in a much warmer climate. When you pray, I ask that you pray for Leroy and Evelyn that God will use them mightily in preaching and pastoring these dear senior citizens. Leroy is one of my three best friends in the known world. I am blessed to have three men who love me, keep me accountable, and who prayer for me and with me.] I am ready to get this much needed surgery done by Dr. Mahoney, my orthopedic surgery. I will have surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, Georgia (one of the 100 best hospitals in the nation) on Thursday, January 4, 2018. The time for my surgery is to be announced today, Wednesday, January 3, 2018. They, the people at the hospital who determine the surgery schedule will call me to let me know the time. My pastor, Terry Kesling and his wife, Pam, and the church have prayed for me several times. I am open to receive prayer anytime. My Sunday school class has prayed for me, too. I still believe in miracles. I had hoped for a creative miracle, but that prayer did not bring about a miracle for me. I have been healed many times. I still trust God Who is Sovereign and has the final Word. Jesus is the Healer, and He uses many delivery systems to bring about that healing. It will take my surgeon about an hour to do the surgery. Of course, I will be sound asleep and will awaken when the time comes following the surgery. I hope to get post-operative rehabilitation at St. Mary's. I ask that you remember me in your prayers for a successful surgery. Pray for my surgeon, Dr. Mahoney, and his staff. He is one of the best in the known world. Also, pray for Melvine and Greg. My pastor and his wife, Terry and Pam Kesling, will be there. Kenneth and Jeanette Phillips will be there and stay with Melvine while I am in surgery. In all probability Bishop Tim Lamb, our conference superintendent, will be present. I am grateful for so many people who look out for Melvine and me. We are highly blessed. We have a good church family who loves us and we love them. Greg, our son, will be there after school. He teaches Special Education at Moore Middle School in Gwinnett County. He will give you my readers a report in Hugh's News on Friday. Mel Tinney, my webmaster will take Greg's report and place it in my Hugh's News newsletter. We are so grateful for your prayers for us. Ron White, Ed. D. President Emmanuel College 181 Springs Street Franklin Springs, GA 30639 706.245.2803 Frank Hamilton has just posted a comment on your blog post, Greg Morgan, son of Hugh and Melvine Morgan, will be reporting daily on the progress of his father following surgery on Thursday, January 4, 2018 "Chaplain Morgan, this is Frank Hamilton, I was stationed at Mc Chord AFB April 1966 to November 1969. I've been thinking about you lately, and looked you up and your website online. About your surgery I pray you are doing well. You were transferred to Elmendorf AFB later. I still remember coming to your house occasionally with other airman." Hope you and your family had wonderful CHRISTMAS and New Year. [Editor's Comment: Thank you Frank for responding to this blog on my website and newsletter. I remember you and the other airman God gave us during my tenure as an Air Force chaplain at McChord AFB from May 1965 to May 1967. Unfortunately you did not give me your email address so I could write you personally. Melvine and I would like to re-connect with you and learn about what has been happening in your life and ministry, and God's goodness to you. You may write me directly by using my email address: hugh@hughsnews.com I remember my days at McChord AFB with the fondest of memories. I enjoyed working with all of you in our Airmen and WAF ministry. We had Bible studies, field trips, retreats, snow skiing, and attending a Billy Graham Crusade one day in Seattle Let me hear from you. You have made my day. Let me give you a benediction written by Billy Graham. I added two word, joy and peace. "May your troubles be less, your blessings more; may nothing but joy, peace, and happiness come through your door. Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil. It has no point" (Billy Graham and Hugh Morgan). You friend in all seasons and your former chaplain, Hugh H. Morgan Email: hugh@hughsnews.com Website: www.hughsnews.com] What is the Lord saying to you about your witness for Jesus Christ and sharing the Gospel in 2018?1/2/2018 Evangelism just doesn't happen without prayerful thought and planning. As we get into the New Year of 2018, God would invite us to join Him in sharing our faith in Jesus Christ with others. Here is a Scripture verse that speaks to this mandate to make disciples: Jeremiah 8:20 The harvest is past, The summer is ended, And we are not saved!" NKJV God has provided a bridge to the minds and hearts of those we meet in the marketplace. It is the benediction that Billy Graham has written. I have added two words--joy and peace. So, it is a benediction by Billy Graham and Hugh Morgan. "Let your troubles be less, your blessings more; and may nothing but joy, peace, and happiness come through your door. Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil. It has no point" (Billy Graham and Hugh Morgan). I am finding that the millennials have never heard of Billy Graham. That is a shame. But we can share this blessing or benediction to meet a deep need in the people we meet. I have memorized this benediction. As I speak this benediction I look into the eyes of the person or persons to whom I am sharing this blessing. People everywhere are hurting and need to come to Jesus Who will satisfy their deepest thirst for the Water of Life that Jesus offers to all of us. I am finding that God is opening the hearts of people I meet daily in person or on the phone. Don't be afraid to ask people if they know Jesus in a personal relationship. The Holy Spirit will help you. Share the Gospel with them and ask if they would like to receive Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. You can do it. God will give you His grace and anointing to lead others to Jesus Christ in 2018. Just remember it is the ministry of the Holy Spirit Who brings a person to repentance of his/her sins, and to place his/her faith in Jesus Christ for salvation and eternal life. We are living in perilous times. I believe that Jesus may come doing my lifetime to catch away His Bride the the Church. Now, no one knows when that will be. We are encouraged to be ready. It is my prayer that 2018 will be a year of harvest of souls for Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God. You and I will be soul-winners in 2018. Happy New Year from your Girls' Ministries board. As we kick off another year, ask God to give you a renewed vision for ministering to the girls in your local church and community. It is our prayer that this first issue for 2018 will inspire and inform you as you either minister to girls or consider how you could get started. I am especially grateful to board member, Mary Alice Treviño, for sharing her story of leading in the midst of disasters. One night when Robert Louis Stevenson was a small boy, his nanny called him to come to bed. Oblivious to her summons, he was staring at something outside his nursery window. The nanny walked over, stood at his shoulder, and inquired patiently, “Robert, what are you looking at?” The little boy, without taking his eyes away from the window, exclaimed in wonder as he pointed to the lamplighter who was lighting the streetlamps, “Look, Nanny! That man is putting holes in the darkness!” You and I may not be able to change the world, but surely each of us can put a hole in the darkness! Turn on the Light! Share what Jesus means to you and give God’s Word to someone else! All through the ages, men and women have done just that! They have turned on the Light so that a living faith in God has been passed from generation to generation. Not everyone has been attracted to the Light, but one by one people have come to Him for truth, wisdom, hope, salvation, and eternal life.
