I discovered Sunday afternoon that Ruthe Brookshire had been taken out of ICU at Athens Regional Medical Center and is now in a private room. The operator connected me to Ruthe's room. She answered and I was pleased that she was alert and knew my voice and my name. As I talked with her I observed that she is oriented to person, time, place, and situation. She is filled with gratitude to God for His grace and mercy and for the doctors and medical personnel for saving her physical life. She told me that she didn't remember a thing about what happened.
We thank God that Angela called 911, and the paramedics came immediately. They knew that time was of essence to save Ruthe's life. The decision was made to take her to Athens Regional Medical Center (which has been renamed Piedmont/Athens Regional Medical Center). She is making steady progress and in a couple of days or so, she said they would be transferring her to Rehab. She is walking and sitting up. She is patiently taking one day at a time.
Ruthe wanted me to thank all of you who have prayed for her. She stated that God had a purpose for this happening, and she wants to be obedient to follow God's call upon her life, and complete the mission He has given her. She is a genuine Christian lady and so was her husband, Navy Chaplain Joseph Brookshire, who died in January 2008, as a patient in Athens Regional Medical Center. At the time of his illness, he was an instructor or professor at Emmanuel College in the School of Christian Ministries. He was a gifted teacher and preacher. He and Ruthe are treasured friends. They have enriched my life just by knowing them.
I want to thank Harrison Lampley, pastor of the Franklin Springs P. H. Church, Bishop Tim Lamb, superintendent of the LifePoint Ministries (Georgia) Conference, Barbara and Bane James, Dr. Beverly Oxley, Keith Hearn, former superintendent of the Georgia Conference, Matt Adams, pastor of Christian Life Worship Center, Wesley Russ, former superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference who gave me information from FaceBook, and Malcolm Herndon for helping me gain information about Ruthe. I seek all the help I can get to inform you my readers about our IPHC people.
