Dear Hugh, Perhaps you have heard that I have terminal cancer of the lungs. I discovered this about a year. and a half ago and the doctor said at that time I might have around 2 years to live. I have had surgery on both sides of the lungs to drain fluid and treat the cancer.
I don't attend church much but have wonderful church family who visit and bring me and Chuck food and flowers--and send cards.
I don't mind you sharing this with your readers and please do ask them to pray for me.
One of my major concerns is Chuck who has chronic schizophrenia. He is kind to me and helps me. He served the Lord when he was young.
I am not writing these days but read a lot, do some cooking and some light housekeeping. I'm going in the morning for an outpatient test.
I have enjoyed serving the Lord all these years--I have lately been in touch again with Leon and Donna Stewart and some of my old P. H. friends.
I have so much enjoyed serving the Lord and as the song goes, "I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now."
Love, Betty Spence

[Editor's Comment: What an awesome responsibility and opportunity God has entrusted to me as the founding editor and CEO of Hugh's News, Inc. Little did I know when God lead me to begin this electronic newsletter that serves IPHC Ministries and the Body of Christ Worldwide nineteen years ago that this ministry would have so many facets of human interests, joys and sorrows. Life is indeed full of Palms and Willows. None of us can escape the sufferings that accompany a long and fruitful life. The Apostle Paul wrote: "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18, KJV).
It was Betty Spence who followed Greg, our son, to the altar at the River Springs Camp Meeting near McKenzie, Alabama, when he responded to the invitation to receive Jesus Christ as his Savior when Chaplain (Colonel) Freeman Mashburn, USA, was preaching the Alabama Camp Meeting. Greg was eight years old. The large tabernacle at that time had wood shavings. Betty Spence led Greg in the sinner's prayer. Greg believes everybody should get saved in an altar where wood shavings are covering the clay ground.
We thank God for Betty Spence and will always love and respect her. She is a gift to all of us. When the time comes for your departure from this earthy life, Betty, may you go in peace and joy in Christ Jesus, our blessed Lord.]
