Dad had a good day today according to him. I didn’t go today, although I like to visit him often. My school in Lawrenceville, Georgia is about an hour away from The Oaks in Athens, Georgia. However, he is scheduled to come home the day after tomorrow.
I look forward to seeing him recover at home and also see him progress with his therapy. One concern that dad had today was going up a step. Thankfully we only have one step that he has to climb when he gets home. The physical therapist had to help him maneuver going up the stair today. As is the custom, the therapist used a strap around his torso that basically looks like a seat belt to me. Dad said that his right leg is heavy which is understandable since his right hip was the one that was replaced. I am sure that dad will be fine, but for him it is different I’m sure.
That’s like an old saying that my father has said for years: What’s the difference between major surgery, and minor surgery? Answer: major surgery is what they do to you, minor surgery is what they do to someone else. In addition, I wonder if it’s easier to have faith for others to be healed easier that it is to have faith for oneself. Hmm. Something to ponder.
I do think that it is absolutely amazing how scientists have figured out how the human body can exercise to improve. Thank God for physical therapists and occupational therapists who work hand in hand. My father certainly has a captive audience with all of the staff to be able to witness to everybody. He will often ask if he can give people a blessing or if he can just share what he believes. Sometimes what he says is short, sometimes it is long, but witnessing is such a natural thing for him. No doubt people at The Oaks have needed to be encouraged and blessed while my father has been there. May we all be a blessing to those we come in contact with on a regular basis.
May God bless you too,
Greg
