Thank you for coming into agreement for our beloved formal “First Lady” Sis Thelma McDowell. Thelma will be having surgery on Wednesday morning, February 10th, if the Lord tarries.
Three nodules were discovered in her Thyroid which may require the removal of her entire Thyroid. This is a delicate operation as they must be careful not to damage the vocal cords or any arteries. The surgery will be long taking up to 4 hours as they will remove half of the gland and send it to Pathology and then the other half. We are agreeing all results will be clean, otherwise they will have to take out lymph nodes.
We agree for a complete and successful surgery. Thank You, Father, for the wisdom and abilities You have given unto man and we ask for Your anointing upon the entire surgical team, with each operating in precision and unity, working for the good of our sister. We bless the hands of the surgeon, guiding him with accuracy and protecting Thelma’s vocal cords and/or arteries from being compromised in any way. We agree for Thelma to respond favorably to all that is being done for her good. Bless her entire respiratory system to respond favorably to the anesthesia. Thelma will go to sleep in Peace and wake up in Peace at the appropriate time without difficulty.

The Rev. Dr. Hugh H. Morgan [Editor's Comment: Thelma McDowell is widely known throughout IPHC. She was one of the most connected administrative assistants an executive secretaries ever to work and minister at the international headquarters of the IPHC. She was the personal secretary to Bishop B. E. Underwood. She served for a number of years as the administrative assistant to Dr. Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr.
Melvine and I, along with our children, Greg and Stephanie, met James and Thelma McDowell and their first son, Jimmy, when the Air Force moved our family to Houston, TX, in May 1970 from Anchorage, Alaska after a wonderful three years of ministry.
The first thing we did when we moved to Houston was to find a Pentecostal Holiness Church. James and Thelma McDowell were planting a new church in a house, and living in a double wide trailer behind the house. We went to church there the first Sunday we were in Houston. We went to the worship service unannounced. We were delighted that no one knew who we were. But that initial visit was the beginning a of life-long relationship with two outstanding young Christian leaders who served our church well, James who pastored Muse Memorial Church and later was the superintendent of the Heartland Conference (formerly Oklahoma Conference and Western Oklahoma Conference).
When I was the senior pastor of the Richmond First Pentecostal Holiness Church James and Thelma McDowell's youngest son. Bill, applied to be our youth pastor. He had just graduated from Southwestern College and was seeking to utilize what he had learned in ministry in a local church. We flew Bill and Misty, his newly wed wife, to Richmond for an interview and to get acquainted with our youth and church congregation. I hired Bill and he served our youth well, and they dearly loved him. Many good things came out of that ministry for which we are grateful.
Little did I know that when I left the pastorate in Richmond that Dr. Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr. would ask me to be the Director/Endorser of Chaplains Ministries, IPHC. When he called, I was preparing to fly to Romania to represent Wesley Potter, the superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference. I was asked to teach on Pastoral Care and Counseling to the senior ministerial students, male and female, at the Eastern European College in Oradea, Romania, for six days, and to preach a crusade and plant a church near Ocna Mures, Romania.
After prayer and fasting, I accepted the challenge offered to me by Dr. Carpenter, Sr. and was the director/endorser for 15 years. For a number of those years, prior to the administration of Bishop Chris Thompson, I had the privilege of working with Thelma McDowell. Because of her professionalism and personal knowledge of the inner workings of the executive branch of our church, she helped me to succeed by following the protocol that was required. I will never forget her assistance to me and the work she did in the background for our chaplains.
We are praying for Thelma as she prepares for this major surgery. It is no small thing, We are trusting God to intercede and show Himself mighty on behalf of Thelma McDowell. He has made her body and His workmanship is marvelous. Because He is God, He can and will heal Thelma through the healing virtue of Jesus Christ Who received stripes in His body for our healing. Therefore, we claim and declare healing for Thelma in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Melvine, my wife of over 55 years, is the leader of the Ladies' Tuesday morning Bible and prayer meeting at our church. Those dear ladies will be praying for Thelma McDowell and others this morning beginning at 10 o'clock at our church in Athens--Christian Life Worship Center.
