Dr. Vinson Synan, the Resident Scholar at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, founded the Society for Pentecostal Studies in Dallas, Texas, in 1970 at the World Pentecostal Conference.
Dr. Vinson Synan returned this year and presented a scholarly paper about Charles Stanley to this scholarly society.
Charles Stanley, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, is probably the best known Baptist minister in America since the death of Billy Graham. His television ministry known as In Touch With Dr. Charles Stanley is seen in nearly every major television market and viewed by millions of people each week. By 2006 In Touch could be heard in 107 languages worldwide. He has also authored over 40 books many which have been religious best sellers. He also served two terms as President of the Southern Baptist Convention. Under his leadership Atlanta First Baptist Church has grown to over 15,000 members. With his strong Baptist identity, few people know about Stanley’s Pentecostal roots that have deeply influenced his life and ministry.
I am grateful and humbled that Dr. Vinson Synan has entrusted me with the privilege to share this paper with you in Hugh's News which he reads daily. I am providing you an attachment of Dr. Synan's most interesting account of Dr. Charles Stanley's life and his roots in the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
