The Rev. Mr. George W. Bass Bishop Greg Amos, Superintendent of the South Carolina Conference informs me that a memorial service for George Washington Bass will be conducted this Saturday morning, December 19, 2015, at 11 a. m. at Cathedral of Praise, 3790 Ashley Phosphate Road, Charleston, SC.
Presiding Bishop Doug Beacham and Bishop Greg Amos will be officiating. There may be another long time pastor friend who will be present to participate in the memorial service.
George Bass was a native of South Carolina. He passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015. He was an ordained minister of the South Carolina Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
When George was 16 years old he married Nell Dismuke and from that union God blessed them with two boys--Wayne and Luis, and four girls--Margaret, Reba, Priscilla and Nina.
George and Nell pastored churches in Eastover and North Charleston, SC and served the South Carolina Conference as a conference evangelist from 1958-1960.
As editor of Hugh's News, I am waiting to get the official obituary for Brother George Bass. He was 83 years old. He served the IPHC as an evangelist, pastor, and conference superintendent (Sonshine [Florida] Conference. He served on the General Board of Administration and the World Missions Ministries of the IPHC.
George was a soul-winner, one of the best I have every known. I remember that he was saved during an Oral Roberts Tent Crusade. He and I attended the week of training in Evangelism Explosion Leadership Training at the Rehoboth Baptist in Atlanta a number of years ago when the Rev. Dr. Richard Lee was the senior pastor. Dr. Lee told all of us in that training conference that he had done his internship under the leadership of George Bass when George was the senior pastor of the St. Augustine Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In 1975 George Bass transferred to the Florida Conference where he became the pastor of Trinity Chapel, now Destiny Church International, in St. Augustine, Florida. In June of 1986, he was elected superintendent of the Florida Conference, where he served two terms until 1994. He also served as a member of the World Missions Board from 1982-1993. George and Nell returned to South Carolina upon retirement and were married for 59 years until Nell’s death. After her passing, George married Pearly Bass in South Carolina.
Melvine and I have had great fellowship with George and his first wife, Nell, in years gone by. We have also entertained George and Pearly his second wife in our home. George was a friend for all seasons. May God bless the memory and ministry of this great man of God who loved Jesus with all that was within him.
Rev. Bass was an avid soul winner who produced and distributed gospel tracts that are still used today. His impact on the IPHC and the lives of those who knew him will be remembered for generations to come.
