Mother's Day Is Sunday, May 12, 2024 The Joy of Motherhood In the United States Mother's Day is a holiday celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May. Mother's Day in 2024 is on Sunday, the 12th of May. Don't forget to give your mother a gift, send a card, take her out for dinner or buy her some nice flowers to show her how special she is. Godly mothers is what we want in all our families. They teach their children that Jesus loves them because the Bible tells them so. They teach them to pray and trust God. Proverbs 31:10-31 The writer of this Proverb describes the Virtuous Wife 10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;So he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evilAll the days of her life. 13 She seeks wool and flax,And willingly works with her hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships,She brings her food from afar. 15 She also rises while it is yet night,And provides food for her household,And a portion for her maidservants. 16 She considers a field and buys it;From her profits she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength,And strengthens her arms. 18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,And her lamp does not go out by night. 19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,And her hand holds the spindle. 20 She extends her hand to the poor,Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,For all her household is clothed with scarlet. 22 She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates,When he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them,And supplies sashes for the merchants. 25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,And on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household,And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: 29 "Many daughters have done well,But you excel them all." 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,And let her own works praise her in the gates. NKJV Joel Sampson McGraw left his earthly dwelling for his heavenly home on May 6, 2024. Joel was born in Conecuh County Alabama on February 26, 1937. He was the youngest of 13 children born to John Monroe McGraw and Nita Ridlehoover McGraw. Growing up on the family farm and working alongside his father instilled a strong work ethic and provided many life lessons. He had a profound encounter with Jesus at the age of 17 that launched him into a life of ministry. He attended Birmingham Southern, Samford College, and Emmanuel College, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Ministry from Southwestern University. He and the love of his life, Janelle Barbee McGraw, pastored churches in Brownville, Alabama, Port St. Joe, Florida, and Flomaton, Alabama before founding Faith Chapel in Huntsville in 1967. He pastored there for over 40 years before retiring from pastoring but not ministry. While living in Brownville, Joel served as chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol. He also worked as a reporter for the Evergreen Courant and wrote feature stories that were picked up by the Associated Press. His writing was a life long interest and he wrote many articles for the church newspaper and a book entitled Fresh Bread from the Pastor’s Table. He had a daily radio program in Huntsville that spanned almost 20 years. He was instrumental in starting the chaplaincy program at Huntsville Hospital and served as chaplain there. His ministry impacted thousands and enabled him to speak in a number of countries around the world, including Cuba, The Philippines, Hong Kong, Africa, and Europe. He loved God, he loved life, he loved his family, he loved to learn. He was always studying and using that knowledge to teach others. He was gentle and generous. He loved words and chose them carefully. He was known for his deep thoughts, clever wit, and play on words. He consistently cultivated a life of prayer and gratitude and expressed that gratitude continually. He embodied the character of Christ in the way he was able to completely forgive others. Joel was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janelle, his sons Steven, and David (Shari), and daughter LaNita (Jonathan) Eby, and 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Bernardine Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Faith Chapel at 11:00 AM. Visitation will follow at 12:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Brownville Memorial Cemetery in Brownville, AL at 2:00 PM. Only God could put it together. This new worship service is being led by two ordained Pentecostal Holiness ministers. There is a sweet spirit in this place. The residents come joyfully as the walk down the corridors of Mulberry Senior Living to worship, sing, pray, hear the Bible read, and recite the Lord's Prayer. We will introduce the Apostle's Creed that is a powerful Gospel document. The residents want to have the service more often. Thus far the men have not participated. They are at the top of our prayer list. We ask that you partner with us in praying that the Holy Spirit will draw them to come and be a vital part of this growing ministry here in this place. My son, Greg, played the piano for our worship and sang a solo. June Butler welcomes everyone who comes and lets them they are loved. Wayne Butler led in worship as he directed of singing hymns, reciting the Lord's Prayer. He sang "Let Us Praise the Lord." The staff are interested and remind the residents of the time for worship. They keep their ears attuned to hear the singing, prayers, and sermon. June counted the people who came. She said we had 16. One person was a 14 year old girl. Her grandfather is a resident. She has a beautiful soprano voice, and she sang every stanzas. We covet your prayers. They mean so much to us. Pray for Emmanuel University Author: Ron White, Former President "We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps" (Proverbs 16:9, NLT). Please pray for Emmanuel University this week. Pray for the class of 2024 that graduated yesterday. Pray that they follow the Lord and make a positive difference in the world. Pray for the senior leadership team of the University as they seek to fulfill God's will and vision for Emmanuel. Pray for funding that continues to improve facilities and provides an even higher quality of education. Pray for new ideas and innovations in how to educate our students and expand our ministry. Thank you for praying. Pray Now More Than Ever 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Words of comfort when our loved ones have fallen asleep
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. NKJV [Editor's Comment: It is only attributed to Christians who die that they have fallen asleep. What a beautiful picture for those who love Jesus. Do you love Jesus? Have you been born again? Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Cor 6:2, NKJV). There was a mayor of a large city who would not give clear "yes" or "no" to questions from news reporters. So, a reporter decided he would try to fix that. At the next news conference he asked, "Mr. Mayor, what is your favorite color?" He replied, "Plaid."

If It Talks Like a Terrorist and Acts Like a Terrorist, It Is a Terrorist Author: Sean Feucht America’s college campuses are burning with antisemitism, a byproduct of the left-wing ideology that has, for years, dominated the upper echelons of academia and poisoned the minds of so many of America’s youth. We are witnessing a poisoned generation of college students on campuses from coast to coast. What started out under the false guise of “peaceful protests” in support of a cease-fire in Israel manifested into its true form—the latest in a long history of hatred for the nation of Israel. Now, terrorist-sympathizing college students are inching closer to the level of antisemitic violence we’ve come to expect from terrorist groups like Hamas. For nearly 30 years, the world has designated Hamas as the terrorist organization that it is. Hamas’ goal is the erasure of Israel, and the organization has used fear and violence to accomplish that goal. When students at Columbia, UCLA and elsewhere start acting like terrorists, we should treat them like terrorists. We must root out who’s funding these violent, hate-fueled riots. We sanction countries that sponsor terrorism and must bring the hammer down on whatever individuals or groups are supporting these silver-spoon, Ivy League jihadists. Don’t let the nose rings and blue hair fool you—this is international terrorism. The rioters holding the campuses of Columbia and UCLA hostage are absolutely committing international terrorism. The FBI’s website clearly defines international terrorism as, “Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups who are inspired by, or associated with, designated foreign terrorist organizations or nations (state-sponsored).” The anti-Israel hatred we are witnessing across America and around the globe is a continuation of a battle being waged against God’s chosen people since the Old Testament. The Philistines, Amalekites, Canaanites, Babylonians and Assyrians are different in name, but their hatred for Israel remains. And we as believers must stand with Israel, no matter the cost. Why? Because God commanded it. In His covenant with Abraham in Genesis 12:3 (NIV), God spoke, “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” We serve a God of covenant, and His covenant with Abraham still holds true today. We can look at the protests happening around the country to see which side is right. To do this, let’s examine some of Jesus’ teachings in the New Testament. In Matthew 7:18-20 (NKJV) Jesus tells a parable of good fruit. “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” One look at the campus of Columbia University will show you some rotten fruit. I witnessed it firsthand. Last week, we held a United for Israel March on Columbia’s campus. We wanted to stand in physical and spiritual solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters. We praised, prayed and denounced the hatred being hurled at us and the nation of Israel. And the hatred did not relent. Now, Columbia has descended into absolute lawlessness and violence, as these barbaric, modern-day Philistines use hate and fear to push their antisemitic message. It. Won’t. Work. We know how this story ends. Those who hate God and His people will meet the same fate as the tree that doesn’t bear fruit. I want my life to bear fruit. This week, we announced that we are bringing the United for Israel March to the West Coast! We will be marching against antisemitism on the campus of the University of Southern California on May 8th at 5:30 p.m. [Sean Feucht is a missionary, musician, activist, author and speaker. He travels the world sharing the life-changing power of the Gospel of Christ and is the founder of the “Let Us Worship Movement.”] I am grateful to Harold Presley who informed me via an e-mail that Joel S. McGraw, passed away peacefully at home with his family around him at 9:30 this morning, Monday, May 6, 2024. It was in 2020 that Joel S. McGraw of Huntsville, AL, had an accidental fall. He was hospitalized with several broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a damaged face and head. As my grandmother used to say, "he was all stove-up." He got pneumonia and had other complications. Many prayers have been prayed for Joel. I have not reported it because I did not have authority from Janelle Barbee McGraw, his wife. Janelle called me on Monday afternoon to inform me that Joel was taken off oxygen and was greatly improved. In fact, the doctor was transferring Joel to the rehabilitation center across the street from the hospital. Janelle told me that her family had cut a 30-minute CD with Janelle's piano playing of church hymns, Scripture readings, and prayers. It was played continuously and it greatly lifted Joel's spirit and helped him to tap into his faith in God's Word for his healing. Will you join me in praying for my treasured friend, Joel S. McGraw. He and Janelle, left their church in Flomaton, AL, to move to Huntsville in the 60s to plant Faith Chapel, a Pentecostal Holiness Church that became one of the larger churches in the Alabama Conference, now renamed Alpha Conference. Joel and I have been close friends since junior high days when we met at Youth Camp at River Springs Camp Grounds near Evergreen, AL. Joel invited me to his home to spend the night. I met his father, John McGraw, and his mother, Nita McGraw. They were outstanding parents and church people. John McGraw was a progressive farmer and sought counsel from the Agriculture College at Auburn University. He used the modern techniques of farming. In addition, John McGraw had the gift of pastor as a layman, and was the pastor to the people of the Brownville Community. Many years later, I was assigned as the pastor of the Bownville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Leon O. Stewart, conference superintendent in 1963, the year I graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary. Melvine taught high school at the Evergreen High School. Greg was born during our pastorate in June of 1964 at the Evergreen Memorial Hospital. It was while there, God called me to go into the Air Force as a chaplain. I mourn the death of my dear friend, Joel S. McGraw. The apostle Paul wrote, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (2 Cor 5:8, KJV). I beleve Joel is in the presence of God. I will see him again. We will eternally be with God and with our loved ones and friends. When funeral plans are complete I will inform you. I have known Hugh since 1964.] My Mother’s Abiding Joy Author: Anne Graham Lotz "Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (Psalm 16:11, NKJV). As a teenager growing up, my room in our house was directly over Mother’s. At night I could see the lights from her room reflected on the trees outside my window. When I slipped downstairs hoping to talk to her a few minutes, I would find her shapely form bent beside her bed in prayer. It was useless to wait for her to rise because she would be there for hours on end, so I would trudge back up to my room. And no matter how early I awoke in the morning, I would see those lights from her window once again reflected on the trees outside. When I tumbled down the stairs, I would find her seated at her big, flat-top desk, earnestly studying one of the fourteen different translations of the Bible spread out around her. My mother chose to make abiding in Christ one of the priorities of her life. Mother’s abiding was rooted in a love relationship with Jesus that was the secret of her life. As a result of her abiding, and the obedience that was integrated into it, the hallmark of Mother’s life was joy. Her face radiated it! Her eyes sparkled with it! And I’m left to wonder . . . what outward evidence of my inner relationship with Jesus do my children see? (Acts 4:23-31) Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, 3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us." 4 He Who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: 6 "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion." 7 "I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'" 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. NKJV May 5, Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico's victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. A story has been shared that a large shipment of mayonnaise headed for Mexico was aboard the Titanic when it sank April 1912. The people of Mexico wanted to honor the memory of that tragic day and created a national holiday. They called it Sink oh(Cinco) de(the) Mayo(Mayonnaise).

Sunday Worship Services at Mulberry Grove Senior Living Today, Sunday, May 5, 2024, Pastor Wayne Butler and Pastor Hugh Morgan will lead a worship service for the residents at Mulberry Grove Senior Living in Statham, Georgia, at 3 p. m. June Butler, wife of Wayne Butler, serves as our church administrator. Pastor Morgan will be preaching. His Scriptural text is recorded in Jude 11. His sermon title is "The Way of Cain." Cain believed in God, but rejected a blood sacrifice for man's redemption. Jesus said there is only one way to God . . . and He is the Son of God Who took upon Himself the sins of the world as the perfect Lamb of God. Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6, NIV). Pastor Butler will lead the singing and sing a solo. Wayne has a beautiful tenor voice that is natural and uplifting. People love to hear him sing. We are grateful for this opportunity God has given to us. Sara Lynn Holbert has a new assignment since her husband's younger brother died a week or so ago. Therefore, Sara Lynn will no longer be able to play the piano for our worship services. June Butler went to work to get transportation for Greg Morgan, my son, to play the piano for us this Sunday. Jeanette Herndon Phillips will pick Greg up and bring him to Mulberry Grove Senior Living for our worship service. We are grateful to God for providing Greg to play the piano for the singing of the hymns and Gospel songs we want to sing this Sunday. One of the needs we have here at Mulberry Grove Senior Living is the recruiting and hiring of a well-educated and trained staff to fill the positions that are currently vacant. We believe God can provide for this need. Your prayers for us as we minister to these dear people are needed and welcomed. There may be some who have never been born again. When you pray you are investing in the Kingdom of God. We believe in the power of prayer, and the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. The following information was sent to me on Thursday, May 2, in response to my inquiry to find out how much has been given since the appeal I made following the two letters sent to me from Bishop Randell Drake in April. He responded immediately. I ask you to read this list and prayerfully consider what God will have you give to keep our university alive and to thrive in the education the students will receive from Spirit-filled teachers. Dear Dr. Morgan, Greetings. We are working on the following items for Southwestern Christian University: 1. The Board of Trustees has voted to proceed forward with School Year 2024-25 2. We are still in need of funding. About $100,000 has been raised in hand with about $150,000 pledged (some stipulated the donation would only be given if SCU remained open.) 3. We need to complete the $370,000 Fundraising effort for the summer to begin the school year in August 4. A decision was made to interview for an Interim President who would lead in the fundraising efforts and assist with the restructuring of the university 5. We are making final decisions on the 2024-25 budget, making necessary adjustments to personnel, salaries, block tuition, room & board, insurance, etc. This should be in place by the end of May. 6. We are grateful for those who have contributed already and for those who will prayerfully consider being a donor for SCU. Blessings to you and your readers, Bishop Randell O.
