Coming off a full load of chemotherapy on Friday, Melvine has renewed faith, hope, and determination to press on and upward on this Saturday morning, December 22. She knows her help comes from the Lord of heaven Who is control of her life now, and in the future, as well as the world to come in all the glories of eternity. There is no need to fear. We know God has not given us as a spirit of fear. The enemy of our souls will endeavor to cause us to fear, but God's ever present love casts our fear.
Melvine wants to purchase a small turkey breast, a small ham, and other things to make us a Christmas dinner at our home, complete with cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, mashed potatoes, Italian green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, and pecan pie. She makes the best pecan pie in the known world. Why go out to any restaurant when you have at home the best cook in the known world. She is as southern cook, and I am southern. Melvine hails from North Carolina. However, she has lived in many parts of the United States as we have ministered in local churches and in the Air Force Chaplaincy.
Please note: Melvine had informed Greg and me that we will help in the kitchen. We can chop up celery and onions, and do whatever she needs. She is delegating authority to us to accomplish her mission. We will respond by saying, "Yes, dear. Whatever you say and want. We are here to serve you."
Melvine spent some quality time on Saturday worshiping Jesus, reading the Bible, devotional messages, and singing.
Our church worship service begins at 10:30 a. m. on Sunday at Christian Worship Center in Athens, GA. We were informed that there will be not Sunday school. We look forward to seeing the largest number of people all year on Sunday. Christmas is a good time to go to church. We love to worship God every Sunday. It is a desire deep within our hearts.
It is amazing to gets a good word of progress from your medical doctor and what that will do. We, also, need a more sure Word from God's servants who preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ who know the Bible. In times like these the Bible is our anchor of hope, and our security in troubled times. Praise God, we are victors and not victims. Hallelujah! Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth with goodwill to all men.
However, not everyone gets such a good report. Our hearts bleed when we hear of terminal illness or that death is imminent. We know what it is like to lose a daughter because of cancer.
I like how Pat Boone put it, "Dr. Jesus still makes house calls." Oral Roberts used to sing the song, "When He Reached Down His Hand for Me." And you know, He still is God and is reaching down His hand to heal, to save, and deliver His people.
Melvine wants to ask our pastor on Sunday if she may give her testimony to the congregation. What a testimony it is. Just three months ago Melvine was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. At most, she had six months to live. Now, she has lived three months.
We are grateful people. We give the Lord, Jesus all our praise, adoration, and worship.
Once again, we want to thank you for your prayerful support and the myriad of get-well cards, birthday cards, and Christmas cards. You have blessed us in so many ways.
Thank you for allowing us to come into your home every day via the Hugh's News newsletter.
Melvine, Greg and I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
