A priest, a minister, and a rabbi wanted to see who’s best at his job.

So they each went into the woods, found a bear, and attempted to convert him.

Later they got together. The priest began: “When I found the bear, I read to him from the Catechism and sprinkled him with holy water. Next week is his First Communion.”

“I found a bear by the stream,” said the minister, “and preached God’s Holy Word. The bear was so mesmerized that he let me baptize him.”

They both look down at the rabbi, who is lying on a gurney in a body cast. “Looking back,” he says, “maybe I shouldn’t have started with the circumcision.”

Hugh's News is Celebrating 20 Years of Successful Publication

PictureHugh and Melvine Stewart Morgan
This year, 2017 marks our 20th year of sharing the news of IPHC Ministries and the Body of Christ, along with sermons, Biblical theology papers, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Hugh's News.

It all began with a need I felt to communicate regularly with our active duty military chaplains who were stationed in various parts of the United States and some overseas. I wanted them to know that Melvine and I loved them, had been where they are in ministry to the finest young men and women in the Armed Forces of our country, and that we were praying for them, their spouses, children, and ministry. Of course, we wanted to keep them connected to the IPHC and what was happening in our denomination.

I want to thank you all who have subscribed to this newsletter called Hugh's News and Commentary. Not only have you subscribed and encouraged others to do the same, but you have prayed and given financially to support this electronic news service. Consequently, I am pleased to announce that you have helped me to finish another year in the black.

Melvine, my darling wife, has stood with me through all these years and has allowed me time and space and the privilege to put together each newsletter. Her prayers and personal support have enabled me to produce what you read daily. I want to thank Mel Tinney, my webmaster, once again for his invaluable service to me and you. He is indeed the power engine that moves this electronic train of Christian journalism.

Your gifts to Hugh's News, Inc. to honor Melvine and my birthdays in December brought a record offering to Hugh's News, Inc. Every gift you gave has gone back into this ministry. I want to thank our son, Greg, for promoting this God-Idea that was highly successful. We appreciate Greg. He is so gifted and talented.

The year 2016 has been one of the most exciting years in the production of Hugh's News. I stand amazed at how God has placed key people in my life at strategic moments to remind me that He is sovereign and providing for every need of this electronic newsletter ministry and service. I have learned the fact that Jesus Christ is the Head of Hugh's News. This is His ministry. In the process He has called me to be the editor, and my role is that of a servant.

When I was working on the mission statement for Hugh's News several years ago it took me a long time to write what would be pleasing to God and that would accurately describe the mission God has for Hugh's News and Commentary.

Let me share that mission statement with you once again:

“The electronic flagship of communications serving IPHC Ministries and the Body of Christ world-wide.”

The Scripture Mission statement is recorded in the Book of Daniel:

“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever” (Daniel 12:3, KJV).

May I encourage you to continue praying daily for Melvine and me as well as Greg, our son. And as the Lord prompts you to give to Hugh's News, Inc. I want you to know that we treasure your financial gifts to this ministry as a sacred trust.

We pray that God will grant you wisdom, strength, joy, peace, and glowing health in 2017 (Daniel 2:23, The Living Bible).

Declaration of Prayer and Fasting for 2017 by Presiding Bishop Doug Beacham, Jr.

As General Superintendent of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, I hereby declare a time of prayer and fasting for January 1-21, 2017. Around the world, we within the tribe of believers known as the IPHC are encouraged to join together to call for an awakening and revival.

Each night during these 21 days there is a Virtual Prayer Meeting in which we can join with hundreds of other believers from many denominations. The call will be from 9:00-10:30 p.m. EST. To join this call as a listener please dial (605) 562-3173. No access code is required.

To assist in our prayer effort a prayer guide which includes excerpts from the book Jesus Now!  God is Up to Something Big by Tom Phillips is available for download.

Phillips writes about revival in this manner, “We can’t predict it. We can’t plan it. We can’t shape it. We can only trust that when our nation reaches a point of spiritual, moral and social no-return—as it appeared to do at least three distinct times in history—an extraordinary movement of God’s Spirit may move in extraordinary ways in response to prayer for God’s broken, contrite children. Every time God has moved in our country, He has done so through the simple confession, brokenness, and obedience of individuals.”

Prayer and fasting. These words were often spoken and recorded for us from Jesus. To further emphasize our prayer time, I encourage you to fast during the time of January 9-15. Each person is encouraged to fast in a manner that is pertinent and helpful to you.

The IPHC core value focus for 2017 is “We Prayerfully Value Christ’s Kingdom.” We pray that we will allow Christ’s Kingdom to grow within each of us and then to use us to expand His Kingdom in our communities.

Join with the Saints in reciting the Apostles' Creed in your worship services

PictureThe Rev. Dr. Hugh H. Morgan, Editor, Founder Hugh's News, Inc.
I would like to recommend that our IPHC pastors consider from time to time in leading their congregations in reciting in unison the Apostles' Creed.

Pastors are teachers and their congregations should not be ignorant or unaware of this historic creed that millions of Christians have repeated down through the centuries. It is a powerful statement of faith that was often spoken by the growing churches of the early church.

It is good to have such a concise theological statement based on the Word of God that we can say from memory. As an Air Force chaplain we repeated it every week in our Protestant Chapel Services. I am not saying we should do it every week, but it is a powerful way to affirm our faith. Pastors will do well to seek the Lord for the order of worship and allow the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to inform and guide him. He is the leader of worship.

Notice the words "holy catholic church" are not capitalized or in upper case. This statement of faith is not referring to the Roman Catholic Church, but to the church universal of which we are a part.

Now, let us read this statement of faith, The Apostles' out loud:

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord; which (Who) was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell [that is, the place of the departed righteous]; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic [universal] church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and life everlasting. Amen.

You will find the Apostles' Creed in our IPHC Manual. You can access our church beliefs, articles of faith, and much more on the website of Hugh's News, www.hughsnews.com.

If you wish to write me, please communicate by the use of this e-mail address: hugh@hughsnews.com

10 Times God Has Hit America With a Major Disaster After the US Attempted To Divide the Land of Israel

You can read for yourself the article that Michael Snyder is the founder and publisher of  End Of The American Dream wrote recently.  I read it in Charisma News.

Michael Snyder wrote:  " . . . despite the fact that President-elect Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and prominent members of both parties in Congress strongly urged Obama to veto Security Council resolution 2334, he went ahead and let it pass anyway."

I have made for your a hyperlink so you can read this article for yourself. I do not personally keep a record of major disasters that have hit the United States of America, the country you and I love, but I felt you should consider reading Michael Snyder's recent article. What Lessons Did you learn from the movie "War Room"?

Picture"War Room"
In reviewing an email critique of the Christian movie, War Room, Joyce McKay of Hoover, Alabams cited this important lesson that we all need to embrace and utilize in our own personal lives in 2017.

Joyce McKay wrote:

"Miss Clara presented the following strategies for private prayer:

"It's not our job to fix the people in our lives. It's our responsiblity to love them, to respects them, and to pray for them. We need to plead with God so He can do what only He can do, and then we need to get out of the way and let Him do it."

What did you learn from this excellent movie? Some of my friends have seen it multiple times. The more we see it, the more we will discover what we missed. This movie is too good not to use it for our own spiritual benefit.

A sixty-seven-year-old mother recently went digging through the attic for Christmas decorations and came across a birthday card her son had sent her 30 years earlier.

She called her son, in tears, sobbing, to say his wish for her had come true.  “What wish?” her son asked.

“You wished me a happy birthday 30 years ago,” his mother replied, “and hoped I’d live for another 30 years---and I did!”

Announcing the 2016 Hugh's News Man of the Year

12/30/2016

PictureThe Rev. Dr, Hugh H. Morgan Editor, Hugh's News, Inc.

When I was working on the mission statement for Hugh's News it took me a long time to write what would be pleasing to God and that would accurately describe the mission God has for Hugh's News and Commentary.

It was shortly after Dr. Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr. was elected General Superintendent of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, that he spoke a prophetic word about the importance of Hugh's News to the members of the Board of Trustees of Emmanuel College during the Feast of Ingathering, and how Hugh's News could be of value in the promotion of the college. I learned of that word from just one man—Bill Cox of Greenville, SC, and who is owner of Martus Solutions and is vice chairman of the board of trustees of Emmanuel College.

Bill approached me about it. He said, “Bishop Ronald Carpenter, Sr. spoke a good word about Hugh's News today in our board meeting and how it might be beneficial to Emmanuel College.”

Bill said, “Dr. Morgan, I am a subscriber to Hugh's News and read every issue. I would like to tell you the truth, your writing is excellent, but the format of your newsletter and the website has a lot to be desired.”

I knew he was telling me the truth and I was not offended. I knew I needed help. His positive word came at a crucial moment in the history of Hugh's News. God had already spoken to me about three things He was going to do in my life, and one of them was sending professional people into my life who could solve the problems I was encountering with the newsletter He had given me to publish.

Bill said, “I think I can help you. I have a team of professionals who can design a new website and newsletter for you.” He said he would talk with his team and get back with me. That team was Seth Cain and Mel Tinney. As I recall Seth Cain designed the website and newsletter format in collaboration with Mel Tinney. Bill Cox offered a contract that was hard to turn down. His team would design the website and newsletter format in exchange for the publicity concerning Martus Solutions' offer to help churches with computerized financial bookkeeping resources and solutions in every newsletter. It cost me nothing, but I am sure what they did might be valued at over $3,000. It is first class in every way and something I am rightfully proud of. Mel Tinney worked out the contract with the new design with my input. It was a win/win contract for Hugh's News and Martus Solutions.

In order to express my gratitude, I drove to Greenville to meet with Bill Cox, Seth Cain and Mel Tinney. It was during the Christmas season when we all met at Bill's office. I invited them to eat lunch with me and we went out to a nice restaurant they chose, and I gave them each a brand new $100 bill as a gift from Hugh's News in appreciation for their excellent work, and paid for their lunch.

PictureMel Tinney, Webmaster for Hugh's News, Inc.
Mel Tinney was the catalyst and communicator for me. I was and I still am a neophyte in the technical aspects of websites, web domains, newsletter formats, etc. Therefore, I am dependent upon my webmaster who has been with me now for 8 years. He is the power player for Hugh's News, and he takes care of all the technical issues and the companies we hire to publish the newsletter in mass mailings. He sizes every photo, and special charts or other graphics we need to communicate with you our readers. He is always available. He has programmed the software for the recording of each newsletter in my desktop computer that saves me lots of time and energy. Our relationship has grown and we now are colleagues and brothers in Christ working together in this enterprise of Christian journalism.

Let me tell you now about Mel Tinney and why I have felt led of the Holy Spirit to name him the 2016 Hugh's News Man of the Year.

PictureMel works in his office in Pepin, WI
Mel never talks about himself and all the things he has done in the industry that he has grown in and thrived as an entrepreneur. It has taken months for me to get him to share with me his résumé or curriculum vitae. What I read was so revealing about the quality of the man whom God had given to partner with me in the production of Hugh's News, a non-profit Christian newsletter that is conservative, evangelical and Pentecostal, that I stood in awe.

Mel Tinney is a senior sales, marketing and business development executive with over 18 years of experience in technology-driven environments including over 10 years of experience with Fortune 100® companies. He has strong, sales, marketing, management, presentation, teaching and cross-functional team building skills.

Mel possesses outstanding oral and written communication skills and has demonstrated the ability to communicate, and manage relationships with senior level business executives.

Mel was recruited by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) as a senior international marketing manager. At the time Digital was the world's second-largest computer maker with annual revenues of 14 billion dollars. During his tenure with Digital Mel managed business segment expense budgets exceeding one million dollars annually. He negotiated sales and marketing agreements with resellers from Australia, Israel, the U.K., Sweden, Japan and the United States.

Mel produced business plans for joint ventures with several DEC partners. Most resulted in million-dollar plus commitments to fund the associated projects. He co-developed sales and marketing plans with these companies and participated in joint sales presentations and major trade show events where his focus was on closing business!

He has traveled extensively in the United States and has held business meetings and negotiating sessions in Europe and Japan winning several top-level corporate awards for his performance.

Mel has worked with senior management and executives at such companies as ABC Television, NBC Television, CBS Television, Gannett, Inc., The Christian Science Monitor, CNN, General Instrument, Harris, Corp., Ticketron, The Walt Disney Corporation, and NHK to name just a few.

Mel was recruited by Time, Inc. to work in the Video Group (HBO & American Television and Communications Corp. (ATC)) as manager of new business development.

At the cable TV division, Mel developed and successfully implemented the business plan and concept for the world's first digital still-photo classified advertising business dubbed The Ad Channel. The business plan was one of the first at ATC using a personal computer and VisiCalc, the first PC spreadsheet application, to run various sensitivity models and operating scenarios.

The Ad Channel was written up in numerous publications and led to a highly profitable automated cable TV business that is part of the success story of cable TV advertising, a business segment that began growing at a 20-30% compound annual growth rate.

Education, accomplishments and recognition

Mel holds certificates in business finance from Denver University, and the Wharton Business School. He is a graduate of Dale Carnegie Training and has completed numerous workshops, seminars, and courses throughout the country on subjects ranging from sales and interpersonal management skills to strategies for international marketing. He completed the Oz Enterprises training on consultative selling of technical consulting services.

He has written and co-authored numerous articles for the national, and international trade press and is the author of the book How To Start Your Own Advertising Agency.

Mel is listed in Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in The Midwest, and Who's Who in Advertising.

Tools and Technology Competence

Mel has worked with PC technology from the Apple II through the Pentium III. He has worked with companies and applications using mainframe, client/server, and networked mini and microcomputer technologies from Microsoft and Digital as well as the proprietary systems common to third party vertical market applications. He is skilled in MS Office 2000, Visio and the Internet. He also uses a web-enabled cell phone and Palm III synchronized to Outlook 2000 to manage his personal contact list of over 1,300 records.

Summary

The common thread throughout Mel’s career has been sales. Selling products, services, ideas and relationships—usually relating to the application of leading edge technology and packaged as integrated solutions.

His focus on building collaborative relationships and team selling concepts continue to fuel his excitement, as these are becoming the key elements differentiating competitors.

High added value based on unique, strategically managed, corporate knowledge and strong ‘trusted advisor’ relationships will separate market leaders from also-rans well into the future. Mel understands both well.

Mel and his wife, Linda, live in Pepin, Wisconsin birthplace of noted children's author Laura Ingalls Wilder. From his home office he builds websites, as well as repairs computers. An example is www.PepinWisconsin.com. I encourage you to check out this website and see how beautiful this part of our country really is.

Mel and Linda have been married 52 years. They were blessed with two daughters. God has increased their family with seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One of their daughters and her family resides in Wichita, Kansas, and the other daughter and her family resides near them in Pepin, WI.

PictureMel Tinney, the 2016 Hugh's News Man of the Year
Now, it's official. It is my honor and privilege to present Mel Tinney as the 2016 Hugh's News Man of the Year.

I honor this good man today with the highest honor I can bestow on any person as the editor of Hugh's News, Inc.

Isaiah 55:10-13

10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Overheard when some children sang “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” at a recent Christmas concert. The line “God and sinners reconciled” was a tricky one for this age group.

One little boy, with a voice that completely drowned out the rest of the choir, happily belted out, “God and sinners dressed in style!”

Announcing the 2016 Hugh's News Man of the Year

The year 2016 has been one of the most exciting years in the production of Hugh's News. Mel Tinney is a senior sales, marketing and business development executive with over 18 years of experience in technology-driven environments including over 10 years of experience with Fortune 100® companies.

PictureThe Rev. Ms. Greta Campbell
Dear Upper South Carolina Conference family,

Just a quick invitation to let you know of a very special event that will occur this evening [Thursday]. Our very own Rev. Greta Campbell will be honored on her Nite Line program on Channel 16. Greta is retiring from the program in the very near future after more than 44 years of service to Channel 16. She began with Jimmy and Joanne Thompson from the beginning of their television ministry to the upstate. The program will be on tonight from 8:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. You are invited and encouraged to call in (864-244-1616) to share what Greta means to you. You are also invited to go and sit in the studio audience if you like, and you will need to be there around 7:30 p.m.

You may watch a replay of the program tomorrow morning, Friday, December 30, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m, but remember it is a rebroadcast and there is no call in. Let us honor one of the pillars of the Kingdom and appreciate her labors in the Upper South Carolina Conference and the IPHC.

1 Timothy 5: 17, "Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine."

With Deepest Respect,
Dr. Tony R. Smith
USCC Ministries Coordinator

[Editor's Comment: I am grateful to Dr. Tony Smith for this excellent announcement about the retirement of Greta Campbell. I have known Greta and Pat Welch for decades. In fact, in my first pastorate, 1963-1965, at the Brownville Pentecostal Holiness Church near Evergeen, Alabama, I invited Greta Campbell and her trio, Greta Campbell Trio, for a two-week revival.

There was Greta Campbell, Pat Welch, and Ramona Garrison Ready in the trio. The church was packed out nightly. People drove from near and far to attend one of the most exciting revivals I have ever experienced. All our youth, with the exception of one boy, were saved. Many youth and adults were sanctified and baptized with the Holy Spirit.

A few years ago, Melvine and I were privileged to go on a trip to the Holy Land with Greta and Pat, and Pastors Phillip and Inez Hart. There were seventeen people in our group. It was just marvelous. Pastor Phillip Hart baptized me in the Jordan River.

Melvine and I, along with Greg, salute Greta and Pat in their retirement. Forty-four years in Christian television is a long time. I pray that God will continue to bless them as they change venues in this new season of their lives. They are ardent supporters of Hugh's News, and we love and respect them for who they are and for the wonderful ministry God has given them for so many years.]

Dr. Melton passes

Dear Trustees,

Dr. Melton, the 6th president of Emmanuel College, passed away this afternoon [Wednesday, December 28] around 3:30.  Dr. Melton was a great man with a tremendous intellect and a great love for the College. I spoke with his son this afternoon, and plans are not firm yet, but they may decide to have a private ceremony in West Virginia and a memorial service in Franklin Springs. I'm assuming it will be after the first of the year. I'll keep you posted and hope that many of you will be able to attend.
