She asked, "Why don't you ever wear your wedding band?"
He replied, "It cuts off my circulation."
She answered back, "It's supposed to!"
Soon after marriage, a lady's husband stopped wearing his wedding ring.

Pastor Terry and Pam Kesling will be in Orlando, Fl, this Sunday, July 23, for the Chaplains Ministries Retreat and Training, on Monday, July 24. Tuesday, July 25 is a day of Men's and Women's workshops and family life training. Our 28th General Conference begins on Wednesday, July 26. It will continue through Friday, July 27. The Keslings will be back for Sunday school and morning worship on Sunday, July 30. In our pastor's absence, we are honored to have the Rev. Mr. William Strickland an executive official of the Congregational Holiness Church to fill the pulpit and minister to our congregation. The Rev. Mr. William Strickland has been given to the ministry since 1994. This servant-hood has changed throughout the last two decades. Since October 2011, he has been serving the Congregational Holiness Church, Inc. as their Mission USA Administrator. Prior to that, he served as a local church pastor for twelve consecutive years. William and Lisa are active in social media ministry and maintain "a different perspective" which can be found at williamstricklandblog.com. Most weekends find them traveling to be with a different congregation each Sunday. William keeps office hours at the CHC International Headquarters Office in Griffin, Georgia where he and Lisa reside. No doubt you will want to visit William Strickland's website. You may access it by Clicking Here on this hyperlink I have prepared for you. There are a number of interesting blogs you may wish to read. Our Pastor, Terry Kesling, extends to all those in driving distance of Athens to visit our church this Sunday, July 23, and hear this outstanding preacher. Many of you already know him and we are sure you would like to re-connect with him and Lisa. For those attending our church from out of town, Christian Life Worship Center, formerly Tarkenton Memorial Church, is located one mile north of the Athens Perimeter or Loop 10, at Exit 14, just off US Highway 129. The address of the church is 125 Kathwood Drive, Athens, GA 30607. In June 18, I was installed as Pastor of the Holmes Memorial Church by outgoing Pastor, Bishop James D. Leggett. I am so excited and honored to serve this historical congregation. I was especially honored to have Betty by my side. She is an excellent Pastor's wife and companion. We recently celebrated 43 years of marriage. Betty graduated from Holmes Bible College in 1973. I followed the next year in 1974. President James D. Leggett has now turned Holmes Bible College over to my direction. The Leggetts have moved to their home in Falcon, NC. Betty and I will be moving to Greenville, SC on August 12--13. Our full time work begins then. The fall semester begins with the first day of class on August 23. Since the 18th of June, I have been close enough to Greenville, to fly or drive there for Sunday services and week end activities. I have completed my first series of sermons entitled The Four Prayer Points of Dr. Bill Bright--laborers, open doors, supernatural resources, and lasting fruit. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Preaching and the fine people of the church. I have felt at home. It is an honor to follow Bishop Leggett as President and Pastor. Miracles have happened at the college and the church under his direction. The college is debt free with a student life center is being completed for the fall semester. The foundation is being poured for a new girl's dorm. The church has been relocated to the new campus and is in a beautiful and spacious building. Well Done, Bishop Leggett!! I will be providing more information about all the changes after relocation. For now, I am very excited about the future. I have enjoyed greatly my time in Oklahoma City and finish my term as EVUSA Director with joy and peace. I leave a fantastic team and will miss them greatly. It has been a joy to work with them to plant and grow churches, work with our chaplains, and to lead the work in ethnic ministries etc. Betty and I eagerly step into the future, feeling greatly that we are led of the Lord to return to our alma mater. We are somewhat overwhelmed. But know that He is Jehovah--Jireh. [Editor's comment: I believe that Bishop D. Chris Thompson and Betty are following the direction of the Holy Spirit and that their ministry will be fruitful and productive. They have been obedient to the call of God. Now is the time for us to pray for them and support the college not only with our prayers but with the resources God gives to us to give.] Ken Phillips, Director of Men's Ministries at Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, GA, is happy to announce that Greg Morgan will be our guest speaker at our breakfast meeting on Saturday, July 29, at 8:30 in our Fellowship Hall, known as Stephanie's Place. You may enter the room from the parking lot adjacent to a lovely rose garden in full bloom on the lower level of our church education wing. At the close of the meeting, there will be a drawing where gifts men enjoy will be given. Greg Morgan, Special Education teacher at Moore Middle School in Gwinnett County. Greg Morgan has recently spent 3 1/2 weeks in Budapest, Hungary, where he had served as a Tent Maker Missionary for the IPHC World Missions Division for a couple of years. He taught English to Hungarian students in a technical high school. You will enjoy Greg's account of his trip, reconnecting with his teacher colleagues, meeting students who were not born when he taught there, his bonding with these students where they invited him to go on various trips to see amusement and historic places in the city, and his ministry at the International Pentecostal Church where he played the piano for their worship. You will enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared and served by our Master Chef, Randy Jackson. He always prepares a delightful breakfast that will satisfy the hungry appetite of any man. More important than the food, is the fellowship and communications of men who love the Lord Jesus Christ and who have placed their trust in Him for salvation. For those attending our church from out of town, Christian Life Worship Center, formerly Tarkenton Memorial Church, is located one mile north of the Athens Perimeter or Loop 10 at Exit 14, just off US Highway 129. The address of the church is 125 Kathwood Drive, Athens, GA 30607. All men are invited. Come and bring a friend. Asbury Theological Seminary Series in World Christian Revitalization Movements, the Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies Subseries Dr. Tony Moon’s From Plowboy to Pentecostal Bishop appears at an opportune juncture in the history of Pentecostal historiography. In recent years, scholars from around the world have “discovered” Bishop King and his seminal work as an early Pentecostal leader. Now, with Dr. Moon’s excellent and complete biography of his life, the stature of “the Pentecostal aristocrat” as a theologian, journalist, educator, and churchman will only grow and expand as newer generations get to know the man who defined what it meant to be a Pentecostal Bishop in the early days of the movement. —Vinson Synan, Dean Emeritus, School of Divinity, Regent University, Virginia Beach, VA ++++++++++ Dr. Tony Moon maintains three perspectives in this book: first and foremost, the life of a key early Pentecostal figure and his role in shaping the Pentecostal movement; second, the emergence and development of that movement from its Wesleyan-Methodist roots to taking its place as a significant theological tradition within Christianity; and third, the development of the Pentecostal Holiness Church within that larger trajectory. He writes skillfully and clearly, leaving no source unexamined. It is a monumental achievement and a must read for anyone interested in Pentecostalism. —William Faupel, retired Prof. of the History of Christianity, Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C. +++++++++ The life and ministry of Bishop Joseph H King comes alive in this thoroughly researched and chronicled biography. Dr. Tony Moon has admirably presented the real life of this Pentecostal leader who was often viewed as “starchy” by some of his contemporaries in the Pentecostal Holiness Church. As one who has always admired Bishop King and his family, I joyfully commend this book to your library. This is a must read for ministers and laity in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and beyond! —A.D. Beacham, Jr., Presiding Bishop, International Pentecostal Holiness Church Bethany, OK LifeSprings Resources will be selling the book at General Conference and a book-signing is scheduled. I will present about Bishop King and the book at the Archives Breakfast. Tony and Gloria Hart Moon will be present at General Conference. You will want to meet them and purchase Tony's book. Here are several reviews of Dr. Frank Tunstall's book:
Vinson Synan, Ph.D., Interim Dean, Oral Roberts University School of Theology and Mission. This is surely the best book I have read on the passion of Jesus Christ. I have known Frank Tunstall for many years. As a student at Emmanuel College he showed unmistakable marks of future leadership. He is also a member of the ORU seminary graduating Class of 1969, earning his M. Div. degree. He went on to be a leading churchman and scholar as well as an able writer. This book, Jesus Son of God, A Study of Passion Week is another example of his ministry of writing. It will be a blessing to read it during lent and the Easter season each year. Bishop James Leggett, President of Holmes Bible College; Presiding Bishop of IPHC, (retired). I am so proud for our church that one of its sons has produced such an excellent book. I especially liked the section on the Farewell Discourses of Jesus. All of our conferences and churches should welcome Dr. Tunstall’s final volume in the outstanding series on “Jesus Son of God.” From His experience as pastor, church planter, professor, college president, conference bishop, and camp meeting speaker, he has written three volumes of excellent exposition of John’s gospel focusing on John’s own statement: “that you may believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). His years of study and teaching along with his deep love and understanding of the Scriptures are evident throughout the book. This third volume covers some of the richest truths in the Gospel. It begins with John 12:12 and goes through 21:25. One senses that he is in the Holy Place as Dr. Tunstall opens up these glorious truths. Dr. Tunstall presents not only a scholarly approach to this marvelous section of Scripture, but he provides devotional and practical lessons from the text. In this volume as in the first two, it is clear that the writer loves Jesus Christ our Savior and is intent on exalting Him. Bishop D. Chris Thompson, IPHC Vice-Chairman and Executive Director of Evangelism USA. I will ask students and young pastors to read and study Dr. Frank Tunstall’s three book series, and especially this Volume Three. Bible students and those on the journey to heaven must see Jesus as the Son of God and understand His ultimate sacrifice for each of us to be saved. This book “seals the deal.” Jesus was and is the Son of God. Thank you, Dr. Tunstall, for your expertise and sacrifice in giving to the body of Christ this capstone of Biblical writing. May the Lord bless each reader and may this volume, as the others, be quickly translated in order that all men may see Jesus as the Son of God. Ron White, Ed.D., President, Emmanuel College. No matter the number of volumes written, man will never be able to plumb the depths of Holy Scripture. But there are those among us who are gifted in exposition who help us understand what is hidden, and they see what is not obviously visible. Dr. Frank Tunstall is one of them. This third part in his three-part series, Jesus Son of God, illuminates the events of Passion Week in the life of Christ. He writes with great clarity and insight, and along the way, inspires the reader to a deeper walk of faith. I especially enjoyed the discourse on the High Priestly prayer of Jesus in Chapter 17 where Dr. Tunstall delineates ten principles of prayer and intercession for spiritual leaders. He is a 1963 graduate of Emmanuel College. We are proud to claim him as our own and to commend him for producing yet another great book. Bishop Jimmy Whitfield, North Carolina Conference, IPHC, (retired). There is so much excellent material in this book. I will refer to it often in my teaching and preaching. A few of the many highlights that leaped out at me follow:
This is a work of scholarship and worship. While the reader will certainly gain new understanding of the Scriptures, he will also develop a greater sense of awe and a humble acknowledgement of the greatness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Very few authors can match Frank Tunstall at combining these two elements. Terry Tramel, D. Min. Director of Global Outreach and Leadership Development, World Missions Ministries Frank Tunstall has done it again. After completing this third and final volume of his work Jesus Son of God, readers will be able to echo the sentiments of the Master of the feast at Cana of Galilee when He said, “You have saved the best for now.” This commentary is not a tired echo of previous voices. Rather, it is a fresh sound from the mind and heart of one of the Lord’s choice servants who has dedicated well over half a century to the study and ministry of God’s Word. For one example, readers will be challenged anew to consider what “Jesus knew” facing the final hours of His life that gave Him added strength for the challenge, and how that relates to our date with destiny both in this life and the one to come. The author has made several trips to the Holy Land and throughout this work his pen serves as a most trusted guide. He enables the reader to easily imagine being present as these most important scenes of human history unfold. Dr. Tunstall could easily have written as a theologian directly to other academicians; however, his pastoral heart shines through from page to page as he gently conveys his concern for his readers. Clearly, it is more than information that he seeks to dispense; his goal is the transformation of himself and his readers as they walk together where Jesus walked during His final days. After taking this journey through Dr. Tunstall’s description of the week of our Lord’s passion, including the Triumphal Entry, the Upper Room, Gethsemane, Calvary, the resurrection, the confession of Thomas and the restoration of Peter, I will never see them the same way again. Bishop T. Elwood Long, North Carolina Conference, IPHC (Retired); Pastor, Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church, Wilson, NC. Dr. Frank Tunstall, a prolific writer, has excelled beyond my ability to express adequately the appreciation I have for the privilege of reading and studying this third volume of Jesus Son of God. The profoundly spiritual depth of this study, albeit with simple language, has immensely enhanced my appreciation for the Holy Spirit's anointing on the author that will carry over to his readers. As for me, my relationship with my Lord has graciously been enhanced as I have spent much of the past month in this study. I was also greatly blessed with Dr. Tunstall’s inclusion of hymns, gospel songs, stories and poetry as he fittingly applied them to touch both the heart and the intellect. I will continue to cherish these eternal truths. Rev. Jay Jones, Pastor of Redeemer Community Church of Cache, OK Dr. Frank Tunstall has written a moving commentary that also reads like a personal pastoral challenge. I found this refreshing and a blessing. Writing from the Arminian and Wesleyan tradition, he has produced a book that will be a great blessing for those of that theological stream. For those of us of the Calvinist perspective, this book will challenge any of my fellow readers to grow in your faith as you gain insight from a brother who has a different perspective from your own. Everyone will find something in Jesus Son of God, A Study of Passion Week that will motivate them and grow them in their love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Preface was written by Bishop Tony Miller The following is Hugh H. Morgan's endorsement of Stacy's latest book, Relationships Your Key to Divine Destiny: I have always been intrigued by the oral ministry of Stacy Hilliard in his preaching and in the one-on-one conversations I have enjoyed with him. His unique method of processing truth that is firmly based on Holy Scriptures has captured my attention and interest. In my relationship with Stacy over more than a decade, I have encouraged him to put into writing his thoughts and understanding of the great truths he has discovered in the Bible. This is his second book and in it, he has opened my understanding to the importance of relationships and how to discern their meaning in the exciting process of bringing into focus the divine destiny God has for each one of us. As your read this book you will hear God speaking to you in marvelous ways to help you understand how various people have been used of God to position you where you were supposed to be. There are some people who were brought into your life for a short period of time, and we need to let them go. They were transitional for a certain season. You will learn more about the value of mentors and the divinely ordered fathers whom God has given to you to develop your character and give you a firm foundation to weather the many storms of life you will encounter. What Stacy Hilliard has to say to you in the pages of this book will be relevant and helpful in your understanding of your divine destiny. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ashley Westbrook Director of Public Relations Emmanuel College 706-988-3369 awestbrook@ec.edu FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA--For the past 14 months, Emmanuel College has been under its regularly scheduled accreditation review with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. A decision by SACSCOC regarding the College’s status has been made, and the administration is pleased that Emmanuel College continues to be accredited. In reaching this decision, SACSCOC determined that Emmanuel is compliant with all accreditation standards in all non-financial categories. However, due to some remaining financial issues that are still being addressed, the College has known that one of two sanctions might accompany the SACSCOC decision, namely Warning or Probation. The College was placed on Warning status, the lesser of the two sanctions. “Warning status provides the College with more time to address the remaining financial challenges on which this decision was based,” President Ron White said. “The College’s financial condition is significantly improved and we are confident that the remaining issues can be addressed with the period allowed.” [Editor's Comment: Let us as a body of believers who read Hugh's News and Commentary daily lift our voices in one accord on behalf of Emmanuel College. This is God's world, and He holds the wealth of this world in His hands. There are those who millions who would like to invest their wealth in young people and in a Christian liberal arts college like Emmanuel. Some of these people with an abundance of money would like to live in a college community like Franklin Springs. I know of a home, a large and expensive home that is on the market for sale. It is ideal for this family who is interested in Emmanuel College. I sense in my spirit that this is the home they have desired. There is no greater investment than in youth. The youth who attend and graduate from Emmanuel College are equipped to make a difference in their world. May God grant financial relief and freedom for Emmanuel College and give them a college that is debt free.] More than 19 years ago, I found myself at a church altar in Orlando, Florida. God had been dealing with me about leaving my comfort zone. I had a great job with nice benefits, yet I felt spiritually unfulfilled. I knew there was an amazing adventure in front of me, but I had placed serious limitations on my obedience. As I buried my head in the carpet in that church, I realized God was requiring unconditional surrender. He wanted me to wave a white flag. I knew what I had to say, but it was difficult to form the words. Finally, I coughed them up. I said the same thing the prophet Isaiah prayed long ago: "Here I am, send me!" (Is. 6:8b). This is what I call a dangerous prayer. It should include a warning label! I believe when you utter these simple words, heaven takes a Polaroid picture of you with your hands up—and an amazing process begins. God closes in on us in order to crush our fears and demolish our selfishness. Then He gives us the holy boldness to speak what we were afraid to say. When I prayed this prayer in 1998, I immediately had a vision while I was still on the floor. I saw a sea of African faces. I knew I'd be going to Africa, and I was scared to death. I had no idea how I would get there, what I would say or who would pay for the trip. So I swallowed hard and prayed again: Here I am, send me! Less than two years later, I found myself standing on a huge stage in a sports arena in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, speaking to 7,000 pastors. I did not enjoy the bumpy flight across the Sahara, and my knees were knocking when I preached. I felt as if I had been pushed way out on a limb. But even though I was terrified, my fear was mixed with incredible joy. The Lord had overcome my resistance, and He was using me. Since that trip, I have ministered in more than 30 countries. This week, I have been in Malaysia and Singapore, all because I prayed a dangerous prayer. Grace is so amazing. God not only gives us the power to serve Him; He plants in us the desire to surrender to His will even if we are scared of the consequences. This is what the apostle Paul described when he said: "For God is the One working in you, both to will and to do His good pleasure" (Phil. 2:13). God has an uncanny way of wooing us into obedience and submission. Our flesh may protest; our fears may paralyze us. But in the end, if we will simply lift our hands in surrender, grace takes over. He gives us power, strength and a willing heart. And the results are supernatural because it is God at work in us. Jesus taught His disciples to cultivate this willing spirit and to pray this dangerous prayer. He told them: "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest" (Luke 10:2). This is what I call a trick prayer. You pray it at your own risk. When we ask the Lord to send workers into His fields, we are really praying, "Here I am, Lord. Send Mike—or Chuck—or Barbara." But the Lord of the harvest will likely tap you on the shoulder and say, "Well? What about you?" The church has advanced throughout history because of people who surrendered to God. One of them was the brave David Brainerd (1718-1747), a missionary to American Indians during the First Great Awakening. Although he died of tuberculosis at age 29, his legacy of total consecration lives on in his journal, published by his friend Jonathan Edwards. Brainerd recorded this very dangerous prayer in his diary: "Here am I, send me; send me to the ends of the earth; send me to the rough, the savage pagans of the wilderness; send me from all that is called comfort on earth; send me even to death itself, if it be but in Thy service, and to promote Thy Kingdom." We rarely hear prayers like that today. Brainerd's passion would be considered politically incorrect fanaticism today. We don't promote self-sacrifice; we have a new gospel of self-fulfillment. We don't talk about carrying a burden for lost people; we ourselves are lost in our comfortable materialism. I wonder what would happen if all of us prayed Isaiah's prayer with full sincerity. What if you raised your hands and left all your fears, worries, excuses, stipulations, limitations and conditions on heaven's altar—and invited God to use your life in any way He wants. I invite you to take the risk. Pray a dangerous prayer, and see how God will use you. J. Lee Grady was editor of Charisma for 11 years before he launched into full-time ministry in 2010. On his facebook page Lonnie says he is going on 90. His birthday is May 11, 1928. He is noted for his 100 voice choirs at General Conferences and Sunday School Conventions, and his orchestra. He and Betty are famous for their twin concert grand piano duets that can be seen and heard on YouTube by Clicking Here on this hyperlink. You can also watch an interview of Lonnie and Betty with Herman and Sharron Bailey on CTN television by Clicking Here. You will want to see them, and purchase a copy of his book, My Amazing Adventures with God. Lonnie asked me to write the foreword to his book. What an honor that was for me. I am blessed to have Lonnie Rex as one of my best friends in the known world. I am in touch with him almost daily. Foreword to Lonnie Rex’s Book Lonnie Rex is the son of a Pentecostal Holiness preacher, evangelist, pastor, church planter, writer and author, who became a general executive official of this great classical Pentecostal denomination with 3.8 million people in 103 countries around the world where he was the executive director of Evangelism and World Missions. As a young boy Lonnie was stricken with Polio. His life was in the balance and he was not expected to live. However, his parents’ prayers touched the heart of God to spare his life and he lived to overcome this physical challenge with his faith in God. Through the preaching of his father, Lonnie’s heart was captured by the story of the lad who willing gave his lunch to Jesus that his mother had prepared for him of five barley loaves and two small fish. Jesus blessed the loaves and fish and fed 5,000 men, notwithstanding the women and the children. That story became Lonnie’s burning desire to give what he had to Jesus, and became the motivating force in the extensive ministries God gave him over many years of humanitarian service around the world. Lonnie never asked anything from God for himself, but prayed that God would give him ideas, concepts, and wisdom to be used to help others. He believed God could use him as He did the lad in the Gospel narrative to bless others. For many years he served some well-known American evangelists in their ministries through tent crusades, large auditoriums, radio and television. God gifted Lonnie to be one of the foremost fund raisers of the 20th Century through letter writing that funded the gigantic costs of mass evangelism and healing ministries. His writing style touched the hearts of people to give generously, and God blessed his every effort to help others through these various ministries. Meanwhile, God led him to be the founder of the David Livingstone Foundation that has brought food, clothing, shelter, and education, as well as financial, medical and spiritual resources to people of many nations. He provided boats and personnel to carry Vietnamese refugees to safety, and saved countless thousands of lives. He has provided medicines, medical supplies, ambulances, built clinics, hospitals, and orphanages to the glory of God and the good to mankind. As you read this exciting book about the intriguing stories he tells of the challenges and opportunities to help people in their time of need in many places in this world of ours, you will discover what a man endowed with a generous heart and so committed to God can do to serve suffering humanity. I have known Lonnie Rex since 1954 when I was a young Marine playing trombone in the Quantico Marine Band during the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and on special events our band played for him when he came to Quantico, the Showplace of the Marine Corps. Lonnie and I met at the National Pentecostal Holiness Church in Washington, DC where we both attended. He and his wife, Betty, were involved in the music ministry of the church. They are both gifted and talented pianists and organists. That friendship has endured all these years, and I consider Lonnie Rex to be one of my most treasured and trusted friends. The Rev. Dr. Hugh H. Morgan is an ordained minister of the Gospel with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. He has served his church as a pastor, Air Force chaplain, college president and director/endorser of military chaplains, VA hospital chaplains and institutional chaplains. He was elected chairman of the National Association of Evangelicals Chaplains Commission, the Endorsers Conference for Veterans Affairs Chaplaincy, and a member of the executive committee of the National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces. He is a former president of Southwestern College, now Southwestern Christian University, a former member of the board of trustees for Holmes Bible College, former pastor of Tarkenton Memorial Church in Athens, GA, and was named the Centurion of the Year in 2011, by fellow Centurions of the National Association of Evangelicals Commission on Chaplains. He served on the board of World Missions for his denomination for eight years, and has planted churches in Ukraine and Romania, as well as traveled to the Bahamas, Cuba, Costa Rica, England, Spain, Germany, Israel, Italy, Sicily, Hungary, Austria, and Belgium. 23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. KJV [Editor's Comment: For those of us who were privileged to sit under the Bible teaching and preaching of the late Rev. Dr. Paul F. Beacham, president of Holmes Bible College and pastor of Holmes Memorial Church will remember that he often quoted this verse of Scripture recorded in the Book of Proverbs. He had devoted his life to the reading, study, and teaching/preaching of the Bible. He taught with an open Bible without any notes. He knew the Word of God from cover to cover and was an excellent expositor of truth. And it was his great desire that he impart to us a love for the truth. I had the privilege to sit under his teaching the New Testament for three years and the Old Testament under the Rev. Mr. Jesse Daniels, a gifted Bible teacher as well. I also attended worship at Holmes Memorial Church and directed the orchestra, on on occasion directed the singing. It was a joy to work with Dr. Beacham. I maintain contract with him long after I left Greenville in 1960 when I graduate from Furman University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a double minor in English Literature and Speech. There is a great need for Bible schools that teach the whole Bible. It is fertile ground for producing preachers, pastors, evangelists, missionaries, chaplains, and businessmen and women. God has used Bishop James D. Leggett to bring Holmes Bible College back into prominence in the Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Pentecostal world with a building program that has been phenomenal. It is my opinion that God used him to do what no other church leader could do. The buildings are debt free. That is a miracle. Bishop D. Chris Thompson has succeeded Bishop James D. Leggett and in this issue you will read more about his installation as the new pastor of Holmes Memorial Church. Hugh's News goes on record as a firm supporter of Bishop D. Chris Thompson's administration in the college and the church.] My boss is without peer when it comes to the rules and regulations that customs officials must follow. But when it comes to the law, well, that's a different story.
We were attending a court case in which we were prosecuting a smuggler. The judge asked the court, "Who is making these allegations?" My boss stood up and proclaimed, "I am the alligator, your honor." Dear Members of the IPHC Council of Bishops: I was honored to serve BISHOP BRAD & SUSAN REYNOLDS and the members of the EPHESIANS 4 NETWORK [E4N] as their presiding officer, on Saturday, July 15th, 2017. This was E4N’s sixteenth annual conference gathering. The conference convened at 9 a.m. on the campgrounds of the International Pentecostal Church of Christ [IPCC], in London, Ohio—about a 45-minute drive from Columbus, Ohio, home of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Bishop Reynolds established a relationship with their former General Superintendent, Bishop Clyde Hughes, several years ago, that has resulted in a fruitful ministry partnership. Bishop Hughes has attended several IPHC General Conferences through the years as a Fraternal Guest and was a strong supporter of Bishop Leggett when he served as Chairman of the Pentecostal Charismatic Churches of North America [PCCNA] and Pentecostal World Conference [PWC]. The IPCC is currently led by General Superintendent Shannon and Stephanie Truelove. Preceding the Conference Session, E4N celebrated its annual camp meeting from July 12-14th. The camp meeting started with a Family Fun Night on Wednesday, July 12th, that featured the JJ Weeks Band. On Thursday afternoon, I was privileged to host a World Missions Ministries Global Outreach Rally and meal for E4N. It was a beneficial opportunity. And then on Thursday evening, Pastor Ryan Dotson preached. Pastor Dotson pastors Lighthouse World Outreach Center in Winchester, Kentucky. He is a good preacher and exceptionally personable. FARO, a worship team from one of E4N’s Hispanic churches, lead our corporate worship. On Friday, July 14th, Dr. Christopher Bowen provided training for E4N pastors. Dr. Bowen is the founder of Living Faith International Ministries in Forest Park, Georgia. Dr. Bowen has authored eleven books and his newest release is entitled, “Beyond Five Star Quality.” That evening, Mark Sarver, senior pastor of Church on the Rock in Berea, Kentucky, preached the concluding camp meeting service. A special time of prayer was held around the altar following his message. Bishop Reynolds began his report by honoring the members of E4N’s Administrative Council and his family. In conferences that cannot afford the services of an administrative team, the Administrative Council and family members play a vital role in serving and carrying the load. Bishop Reynolds noted the outstanding service of Rev. Butch Deer, E4N’s Discipleship Ministries Director, and Rev. Gene Kennett, Conference Missions Director. Bishop Reynolds also celebrated the success of the conference’s local schools of ministry and their impact. These schools of ministry are starting to produce an internal stream of ministerial candidates, as evidenced by the large number of persons approved for the Local Church Minster’s Certificate (the highest number in the history of the conference). E4N is also a very diverse conference and Bishop Reynolds challenged attendees to embrace and celebrate their diversity. Clergy Credentials Were Issued as Follows: Ordination (3) - Rev. I honor Bishop Reynolds and his family for their service to the Lord and the IPHC in E4N. E4N covers an expansive geography with churches in eight states—Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. What tremendous Kingdom potential. May God give Brad and Susan the desires of their hearts! I was honored to serve this part of our IPHC faith family. -Tal- Bishop Talmadge Gardner Dr. A.D. Beacham, Jr., Presiding Officer It was a joy to attend and preside over the Grace Bible Ministries (Texas Conference) Annual Conference on Friday and Saturday, July 7, 8th. This was a historic conference as there was a transfer of leadership from one conference superintendent to another. Earlier this year Bishop Ricky Walter spoke with me about stepping down as the conference superintendent. Diligently working to complete his doctoral degree in counseling next year, Bishop Walter did not feel he could give the time to the conference work that was needful. Several months ago, Bishop Walter, Assistant Superintendent David Salazar, and I met in San Benito, Texas to discuss this transfer. The three of us agreed on the timing and that Rev. Walter would assume the vacant office of Assistant Superintendent. Since the quadrennial conference elections will be next year, the conference agreed with this simple step. On Friday afternoon, I had the honor of installing Bishop David Salazar as the conference superintendent. His wife Rosa was with him. In the installation service Rev. and Mrs. Walter joined with me as well as two other board members. We were privileged to have Bishop Scott Hampton of Great Plains Conference with us and he joined me in laying hands on Bishop Salazar. Bishop Salazar will be present for the Council of Bishops meeting in Orlando, Florida on Monday morning, July 24th. I want to take a moment and express appreciation for Rev. Walter. He has served on the Council of Bishops for about four years. He took office during turbulent times and brought stability to the churches and ministers. He is a gifted musician with a great anointing upon his ministry. He also brought significant insights to the COB on various issues related to care for distressed ministers. His counseling experience and background will continue to be a great resource for the IPHC for years to come. Friday morning of the conference, Bishop Scott Hampton brought an excellent two-session teaching on leading organizations. The youngest serving conference superintendent on the Council of Bishops, Bishop Hampton’s vision, energy, and leadership are being recognized across the IPHC. Early on Friday evening Dr. Luis Avila, IPHC Hispanic Ministries Director, spoke in a bilingual service. A gifted speaker, Dr. Avila opened the Word of God in a powerful way. He also shared about the successes of the Instituto Nacional de Capacitacion Ministerial program in Grace Bible Ministries. There is no doubt this will lead to a new generation of men and women trained in effective ministry. On Friday evening Bishop Beacham spoke on “We Prayerfully Value Christ’s Kingdom.” It was an honor to have former conference superintendent Barry Boatright attend this evening service. A dear friend and godly leader, he joined Bishop Salazar, Rev. Walter, and I in prayer for the many young people who were in attendance. On Saturday morning Bishop Salazar shared his vision and heart for the conference. He is an inspiring and humble leader. He has traveled across the conference meeting with pastors and congregations bringing encouragement. Carlos and Nuria Bolanos shared their heart and vision for ministry with Acts2Day in Hawaii. I have been with this inspiring couple at several events and deeply appreciate their ministry. They are working with EVUSA to do church planting in Maui. Many tourists do not realize the depths of despair and depravity that operate in Hawaii. There are great opportunities among Spanish speaking people in this state and the Bolanos are worthy of our financial and prayerful support. I am thankful that Susan and I are supporting this couple and encourage you to do the same. One person received ministers license and another was re-instated. Two persons also received local church ministers certificates. Stacy's use of Scripture and characters of the Bible to illustrate the meaning and importance of relationships will point you to the utterly great and awesome God Who continues to speak within and lives above every page of Holy Scriptures. Beacham, Jr. Christian art has historically portrayed the Fourth Gospel with the symbol of an eagle. The Holy Spirit inspired the Evangelist John to view Jesus Christ from the standpoint of eternity, like an eagle soaring high views all below him. At the same time, like the sharp eye of the eagle, the Evangelist conveyed aspects of Christ’s activity and teachings not revealed in the Synoptic Gospels. Dr. Frank Tunstall has performed the duties of an eagle in writing this third volume of his masterful study of the Gospel of John. Along with the first two volumes, this third volume examines the Fourth Gospel from the height advantage of viewing the whole testimony of God’s Word and from the precise advantage of speaking to our daily lives. Using the best of evangelical scholarship, Dr. Tunstall begins in John 12:11 with the response of Jewish leaders to Jesus’ raising Lazarus from the dead. Using the best of a Pentecostal, Spirit-filled hermeneutic, Dr. Tunstall gives Spirit-anointed insights into the text. This is especially true in John 14-16 where Jesus speaks often of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. And using the best of his pastoral and preaching gifts, Dr. Tunstall gives the pastor wise insights for teaching and preaching, and gives the lay reader gems of revelation that will inspire and stir the soul. In particular, Dr. Tunstall’s careful analysis of John 12-21 takes us into numerous Old Testament passages for background reference. Among the many great qualities of this commentary, I found that analysis and exposure to be well worth the read in itself. Using his great knowledge of the Word, honed through years as a Bible teacher, pastor, church planter, preacher, and writer, Dr. Tunstall ties together the various events and sayings of Jesus during this last week of His earthly ministry with God’s eternal plan of salvation revealed to Israel through the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings. Of the writing of commentaries there is no end. In many ways that is a good thing as new insights into God’s eternal Word are communicated to different generations. There are commentaries written primarily for critical scholars. While important, often they are not particularly useful in themselves for those of us who preach Sunday after Sunday. There are commentaries that are designed to be more user-friendly for preachers but nonetheless fail to offer the preacher much assistance in making the transition “from text to sermon.” On occasion one finds a commentary that is able to provide the needed bridge “from text to sermon.” It does this because first, it is faithful to allow the text to speak for itself. It does not make the text say something that is more accommodating to the modern ear. Second, the writer knows the hearts of people from his or her own personal experience in ministry. Third, the writer knows the challenges preachers face and is able to assist the preacher through the reading of the commentary. Fourth, the writer knows that the Holy Spirit will take the Word of God and use it to speak to the heart and mind of the preacher. Through that speaking and hearing, the Word will go forth as proclamation and, as God has promised, “will not return void” (Isaiah 55:11). Dr. Frank Tunstall has done each of these and done them well. As you read each of these volumes, but especially this third volume, you will find your soul edified and the Word reaching deeper into your own heart. Moon’s From Plowboy to Pentecostal Bishop: The Life of J.H. King appears at an opportune juncture in the history of Pentecostal historiography. In recent years, scholars from around the world have “discovered” Bishop King and his seminal work as an early Pentecostal leader who was theologically highly educated for his time, place, and social location. From Dr. A.D. (Doug) Beacham, Jr., Presiding Bishop and General Superintendent International Pentecostal Holiness Church: The life and ministry of Bishop Joseph H. King comes alive in this thoroughly researched and chronicled biography. Dr. Tony Moon has admirably brought to real life the often 'starchy' view of this Pentecostal leader. As one who has always admired Bishop King and his family, I joyfully commend this book to your library. This is a must read for ministers and laity in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and beyond! From D. William Faupel: Tony Moon keeps three perspectives in view as he writes: first and foremost, the life of a key early Pentecostal figure and his role in shaping the Pentecostal movement; secondly, the emergence and development of the Pentecostal movement from its Wesleyan Methodist roots to taking its place as a significant theological tradition within the spectrum of Christianity; and finally, the development of the Pentecostal-Holiness Church within the larger theological tradition. It is a monumental achievement; a must read for anyone interested in Pentecostalism, especially the Wesleyan Holiness wing. Ken Phillips, Director of Men's Ministries at Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, GA, is happy to announce that Greg Morgan will be our guest speaker at our breakfast meeting on Saturday, July 29, at 8:30 in our Fellowship Hall, known as Stephanie's Place.
