Russell Board was born in Christiansburg, Virginia. He grew up there, married his high school sweetheart, and joined the IPHC through her.
He earned a B.A. degree in Philosophy and Religion at Radford University, and an M.A. degree in Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Russell and Sandra were called into missions while he was in graduate school. They were ordained in the Cornerstone Conference, and sent out by World Missions in 1984.
After a stint of training in London, They spend a year in Paris and three years in Rome working in church planting. Meanwhile they relocated to Japan in 1989, and have lived there ever since. Russell took on the role of the Continental Director for Asia/Pacific in 2002.
