[Editor's comment: I met Verne when became pastor of Tarkenton Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church in Athens, Georgia. Verne and his brother, Wayne, were present at the parsonage when Lester Cape drove up with me in the rental truck with it full of furniture and household goods. They were present to show their appreciation and love for their new pastor and his wife by unloading the furniture as Lester Cape directed them.
That day when I met Verne and Wayne Stalvey was the beginning of a long time relationship that was meaningful to both of us. Verne and Wayne were in the house painting business, and they painted the church and parsonage as needed, as well as painting a newly built literature cabinet with racks for tracts, and our altar rails I had Henry Shaw to design and build. Henry designed the church as an archetect would. His brother, Larry Shaw served as the general contractor. Dr. Paul Hopkins was the pastor. The day the church is full. The Tarkentons were present with the absence of the Rev. Dr. Dallas Tarkenton who was deceased and a friend of Dr. Paul Hopkins.
Fran Tarkenton, the famed quarterback for Georgia, and a pro quarterback for the Vikings and Giants was present and spoke. Bishop J. Floyd Williams dedicated the church to the glory of God.
Verne married up when he married Sarah Daniels. Melvine and I were pleased with his marrying Sarah.
It is my prayer that God will bring comfort and peace to the family.

Jesus Revealed in Us
Author: Anne Graham Lotz
"Those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continluel to do good" (1 Peter 4:19, NIV).
If our kids always behave
and our boss is always pleased
and our home is always orderly
and our bodies always feel good
and we are patient and kind and thoughtful and happy and loving, others shrug because they’re capable of being that way too. On the other hand, if
we have a splitting headache,
the kids are screaming,
the phone is ringing,
the supper is burning,
yet we are still patient, kind, thoughtful, happy, and loving, the world sits up and takes notice. The world knows that kind of behavior is not natural. It’s supernatural. And others see Jesus revealed in us.
