May 5, Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico's victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. A story has been shared that a large shipment of mayonnaise headed for Mexico was aboard the Titanic when it sank April 1912. The people of Mexico wanted to honor the memory of that tragic day and created a national holiday. They called it Sink oh(Cinco) de(the) Mayo(Mayonnaise).
