Wishing Lonnie Rex a Happy 93rd Birthday Celebration
Author: Hugh H. Morgan
Dr. Lonnie R. Rex, Mus.B., D.D., LLD., Litt.D., Knights of Malta…is celebrating his 93rd Birthday on May 11, 2021.
Also, his dear wife, Betty Louise Sorrells Rex, will be celebrating her 91st Birthday on May 25. They have been married 72 years.
Jose Pafcua, was the International Director for many years of the FGBMFI. They met in the Philippines 60 years ago during the great T.L. Osborn Crusade there. He and his wife were in Bible School. Recently they met in Houston for lunch….what a reunion.
Jose and his wife are having a Birthday Celebration for Lonnie and Betty on May 14 at the Olive Garden in Willow Brook, TX for some 22 invited guests who are their mutual friends.
Lonnie led the singing and directed the 100 Voice Choirs for General Conference and Sunday School Conventions accompanied by his wife, Betty Sorrells Rex, on the Grand Piano, and orchestra. Those great convention songs that Lonnie introduced were taken back to all the churches and congregations and choirs sang them all during the year, and following years. This glorious music helped to unify our local churches and connect them to the larger body of Pentecostal Holiness members across the United States and around the world.
I met Lonnie and Betty Rex in 1954 in Washington, D.C. at the National Pentecostal Holiness Church during the pastorate of Ray Stewart when I was a young Marine stationed at Quantico, VA about 33 miles from our nation's capitol. Lonnie and I have been friends since then. Lonnie reads every Hugh's News and comments on what he reads. He is a big supporter of Hugh's News.
We join hands and hearts all across this planet earth God has made to wish Lonnie Rex a happy 93rd birthday.
As a world traveler and God's ambassador to the world in need of humanitarian assistance in crises, Lonnie Rex served as the founder, CEO, and ambassador of good will of the David Livingstone Foundation for some 20 years to a hurting world. Wherever he went, he brought Jesus Christ into whatever situation he found himself.
We salute his faithful and loyal wife, Betty Sorrells Rex, who has loved him through the good times and the bad times, and encouraged him to keep on going wherever God opened a door of opportunity for him to serve.
