Luke 10:1-2 Called to pray . . . Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers in His harvest field
10 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place where He was about to go. 2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.
NIV
[Editor's commentary: Jesus believed in planting seed and sowing abundantly. He believed in reaping a harvest. Not only does this apply to the planting of corn or wheat seed, but planting seed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to reap a harvest.
The Apostle Paul wrote: "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
KJV
Prayer is the key. When we pray like this don't be surprised that God will have you involved in planting the seed, or watering. It will be God Who will equip us for the ministry and help us to be effective and fruitful. We may need training in this area . . . what we are to say, and how do we approach people. Let me say once again that the Baptism with or in the Holy Spirit is the power of evangelism.
May I encourage you to get with your pastor and ask him for his vision to reach your neighborhood and that you want to be a part of fulfilling that vision. Every pastor should be able to discuss this matter of evangelism, and give guidelines how to reach your community. No doubt you have ideas too. There there three kinds of ideas:
1. Good Ideas
2. Great Ideas
3. God Ideas
We want God's Ideas. When we seek His plan for our community, He will certainly guide us. Let me know how it goes. I am interested in your story.
It is my belief that now is the most exciting time in all human history to do the work of the evangelist. I am finding people open to the things of God. I am sensing a renewed reverence for God and a desire to hear the Good News.
The Apostle Paul said, "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16, KJV).
Witnessing to Jesus Christ wherever I go is a natural as breathing for me. I am convinced that God gave me the gift of evangelism when I was saved at the age of six. The Holy Spirit anoints me to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in various public settings. Here is how I do it:
I ask if the person or persons have heard of Billy Graham. Most people over 25 have. For those under 25 I briefly tell them who Billy Graham was . . . a great American evangelist who preached the Gospel in tents, auditoriums, and stadiums all across the United States, and many countries of the world. He lead millions of people to trust in Jesus Christ for their salvation. Last year, Billy Graham died. He was 99 years old. However, if you add the 9 months he was in his mother's womb before his birth, and the Bible teaches that life begins at conception, he lived to be 100 years old. What a life. Therefore, we need to protect the baby in the mother's womb and the mother.
Several years before Billy Graham passed on to Heaven he wrote a blessing or benediction. I was so caught up in it that I quickly memorized it. May I share it with you? When they grant me permission to share it, I quote it from memory:

God is using this introduction to open the hearts and minds of young and old alike. God has enabled me to pray with people with various needs and to encourage them. The Lord of the Harvest has enabled me to lead several people to Jesus Christ. Only the Holy Spirit can bring people to saving faith. I plant the seed and see what God will do. I cannot save anyone. Jesus saves.
What is your plan of evangelism? I am interested in knowing what you are doing to win people to Jesus Christ. There is only one way to heaven. It is by the way of the Cross of Calvary where we must all bow, repent and confess our sins, and ask God for Christ's sake to pardon us and give us eternal life. He will save all who will call upon the Name of the Lord.
