A Message from the President
The first classes of Holmes were in the summer of 1893 in a cottage on Paris Mountain. N.J. and Lucy Holmes led the classes. The first semester of the college was held in the newly purchased Altamont Hotel on Paris Mountain, Greenville, South Carolina. The college was then called the Altamont Missionary
and Bible Institute. After several moves and name changes, the college is now called Holmes Bible College. It is located at the foot of Paris Mountain, Greenville, South Carolina, at 4901 Old Buncombe Road. The original site can be seen from the parking lot.
Thursday, October 4, 2018 was a very special day in the journey of Holmes Bible College. There were several activities and events planned. Trustees had their fall meeting. Nearly all were present to plan for the 122nd term in 2019. At 4:00 p.m. the main road into the campus was named and dedicated as “Leggett Way” in honor of Bishop James and Faye Leggett. At 4:45 p.m. the newly acquired college van was dedicated in honor of Mr. Daneel le Roux, an alumnus from Greenville, North Carolina. At 7:00 p.m. the Women’s Ministries of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church led in their annual Vision4Education meeting. It was an exciting and Spirit-anointed day.

The leaders of Holmes were so blessed to name the main road of the campus as “Leggett Way.” The road will ultimately bi-sect the 39 acre campus and give the college two means of access. The named road honors Bishop James and Faye Leggett. The Leggett’s led the college for nearly nine years. During their tenure five new buildings were built and a president’s home was purchased and remodeled. Some near seven million dollars was raised. The primary campus is debt-free. The enrollment doubled. God was and is at work!
Faye Leggett was present with all four of the children – Jimmy, Joey, Cindy and John. Other family members were present. Bishop Leggett had left us early. He was promoted to heaven in February, 2018. However, his presence was felt in all the activities of the day.

The ladies of the Women’s Ministries outdid themselves. In the midst of great adversities caused by the recent Hurricane Florence, they would bring to the college financial gifts of over $35,000.00. The team and I are so appreciative. The gifts are such a blessing to this faith oriented college. Thank you, Brenda Grasty for moderating the meeting.
During the Vision4Education program, a drama entitled “Well Glory” was presented. The drama written by Rev. David Wheeler, depicts the lives of James and Faye Leggett with special emphasis to Holmes Bible College. The couple met at Holmes, worked there for a season, had their first son there, and then would return after years of fruitful ministries. All who saw the drama wept, cried, and rejoiced. It was a testimony to the faithfulness of our God and to the faithful lives of two of His choice servants.

Carl O. Sturkie Maintenance Facility
The Board of Trustees of Holmes in their October meeting approved the fund raising and construction of a shop/maintenance facility. This is so needed and even critical to the mission of Holmes. The facility will be named the Carl O . Sturkie Maintenance Facility. Rev. Carl Sturkie, veteran African missionary, has been vital in the relocation of the college and church. Of the seven buildings of the college/church, he has had his hand in six of them. He was the contractor of five. He has made the difference.
We are still finalizing the cost and plans. I estimate needing at least $100,000.00. Gifts and pledges are deeply appreciated. When we reach $50,000.00 in hand, I will turn Carl loose. He will build his own building! Imagine that!
Please help us! I would love to see it built in the spring and dedicated in the fall of 2019. Praise Him!
