Melvine's oncologist has given a report from her knowledge and experience of specialized medicine in oncology. To the best of her knowledge and experience and the recent CAT Scan plus the blood marker Dr. Jane Huang says the cancer in Melvine's abdomen is growing and there is no more treatment they can give her. The word she gave Melvine was she has only a few months to live, not even six months.
That is word one from medical science.
We know from the Bible and our own human experience that all men and women die. No one escapes death, It is inevitable. The writer of the Book of Hebrews stated, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).
In the natural Melvine has lived a long time. She is 84 years old. But is it now that it is Melvine's time to die? We pray daily for God's Will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Above all, we desire God's Will.
Then, there is the Word of the Lord. There are Scriptures that build our faith to believe in the promises of God. We are to look above the circumstance and look to God the Author (architect) and Builder of our faith.
When Mary Anne and Everette Weeks visited us in our home on Friday, I was released for the first time since Melvine received the doctor's report to say out loud, "Melvine shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD" (Psalm 118:17, KJV).
While I honor and respect the word of Dr. Jane Huang concerning the termination of Melvine's life within a few months, I have decided and determined to believe the Word of the Lord for Melvine.
Melvine is now being cared for by St. Mary's Home Hospice Care. We are thankful to God that Dr. Huang made that important referral, and that we can continue to care for Melvine at home with medical and spiritual people. We have not seen a Hospice doctor, but we have seen three nurses, a chaplain, and a medical tech who comes twice a week to help Melvine take a shower and shampoo her hair. Some of Melvine's medications they will cover. I have had to have the nurse order three medications that are sent to our home free of charge.
Melvine has increasing pain in her abdomen. Thus far, I am able to take care of that pain with a prescribed medicine that is controlling the pain. She is sleeping more and more. I think the medication is doing that.
She suffers with her hands. We have medication for that but it is not enough. We will use a cream that Mary Ann gave us. I have used it on my left knee and it has already taken away the pain.
The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God:
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
KJV
I desire to be a man of faith. I believe that God exists, and that He invites my prayers, He knows my mind and heart, and all about me, the good and the bad, and still loves me, and He will reward me as I diligently seek Him.
I am asking God to extend Melvine's life so she might live and declare the works of God. I am not confident He is through with Melvine's unique ministry. She needs to complete her book, "I Am So Glad You Got to Meet Me." I long to hear her sing again. I think she is a female Perry Como as singer. She sings with a natural, clear, melodious voice. Her signature song is "It took a Miracle!" No one can sing like Melvine. She is one of a kind and sings from her heart of love for Jesus and His Word.
I know that Melvine does not want to die right now. She believes God wants her to live. She told me so this past week. I have backed off in talking about planning her funeral. I am changing.
So, that is my story of what we know and believe. We confess we do not know it all and we constantly seek God to help us daily.
Please continue to remember us in prayer. Your prayers are making a difference.
