Thanksgiving Is an Attitude and a Way of Life
vs. 11-14: "Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, Jesus, Master, have pity on us! 14 When he saw them, he said, Go, show yourselves to the priests. And as they went, they were cleansed" (Luke 17:11-14).
Ten lepers experienced physical healing, but only one discovered wholeness.
Thankfulness completes healing.
"The most destructive acid in the world is found in a sour disposition" (Kevin Riggs).
Thanksgiving is Hindered by the Sin of Ingratitude
v. 15, One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.
a. Pride – Romans 12:3
b. Affluence – 1 Timothy 6:6-10
c. Greed – 1 John 3:16-18
d. Circumstances – Exodus 14:10-11
Gratitude produces more positive emotional energy
than any other attitude in life (Hans Selyr).
Thanksgiving Is More than Food and Football
vs. 16-19: He threw himself at Jesus feet and thanked Him, and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner? 19 Then He said to him, Rise and go; your faith has made you well.
1. We should be thankful for the opportunities of life. Psalm 100:4, Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.
2. We should be thankful for the challenges of life. 1 Thessalonians 5:18, " . . . give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
3. We should be thankful for the blessings of life. Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose."
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His love endures forever (Psalm 107:1).

[Dr. Stan Toler was an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarenes, a successful pastor, a prolific writer and author of numerous books. He was elected to be the general superintendent of the Church of the Nazarenes. I met him through the late Bishop Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr. when he was the executive director of Evangelism USA, and chairman of IPHC Chaplains Ministries. I got to know him and we corresponded often. I enjoyed learning his method of sharing the Gospel. It works. May God bless his memory.]
