The Rev. Mr. Arthur Preston Campbell, 83, of Greenville, SC passed away April 4, 2016, at Southern Oaks Personal Care Home in Greenville.
Rev. Campbell was born in Clemson, SC on July 3, 1933, son of the late William Marcus Campbell and the late Ellen Miller Campbell. He was a licensed and ordained minister in the Upper South Carolina Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he pastored several churches over the years. In the early 70s, he organized Taylors Pentecostal Holiness Church and later designed and built its beautiful sanctuary located on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Taylors, SC, renaming it The Cathedral of the Cross.
For a number of years, he poured his heart and time into ministry to boys through the denomination’s Royal Rangers program. In fact, all of his life, Rev. Campbell had a heart for people, reaching out to those who were in difficult situations. Along with his ministry, he was also a skilled building contractor, often doing his own designs and blueprints. Nothing less than perfection and excellence was acceptable to him! He was also proud to be a veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Campbell was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline Stewart Campbell, sister, Elizabeth Wardlaw and brother, William Campbell.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Leila Inez and Phillip Hart of Elberton, GA, his sisters Greta Campbell and Pat Welch of Greenville, and brother and sister-in-law, Rufus Mitch and Judy Campbell of Anderson, SC, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William and Janette Thompson, Don and Yvonne McKellar, Edith Stewart and Francis Stewart, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rev. Campbell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Gum Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with and Dr. Ronald Moore, Mrs. Gloria Moon wife of the Rev. Dr. Tony Moon, and the Rev. Mr. Joel Sexton officiating.
Interment, led by the Rev. Mr. Phillip Hart and the Rev. Mr. Don McKellar, will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
