I wanted to report to you that in the last three days now, I have gotten outside the house and sat on my front porch to take in the sunlight. How blessed I am to have that privilege to enjoy God's world.
I allowed the sun to shine on my legs that need God's healing. I am a diabetic and don't heal up as quickly as I used to do. I am trusting God to heal me and I will allow Him to direct me to obtain that healing.
Greg cleaned up a mess the birds made on the ceiling of our porch. There was mud and straw in abundance. The Cook's Pest Control man knocked down the birds' nest but left a mess. Greg took a brush, hose pipe with pressure and solvent to remove the clutter. He did a perfect job.
My yard man told me that if I had the ceiling painted light blue the birds will stop making nests. They will think it is the sky. Well, I have never hear that before, but we will get someone to paint it and the white trim as well. I noticed a carpenter bee making a hole in one of the columns. That needs to be filled with paint.
I now need to get a neighbor who does landscape work to use his professional aerated and aerate my yard after Charlie has fertilized it. That will make a big difference when holes are cut in the turf and the fertilizer and lime pellets go into the hole and into the roots.
My neighbors with the two boys are preparing to go camping. They have rented or purchased a small camper for that purpose. Both the father and mother of these boys have families that camped. It is a family tradition.
I remember in Alaska, I rented a camper on base, and I took Melvine, Greg, and Stephanie on a camping trip. Melvine cooked our breakfast in it, and I think we grilled out other meals. We slept in it. I loved it.
Melvine's idea of camping was Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn. She was not in for that outdoor stuff.
However, we used to go to Nags Head with Melvine's parents, Russell and Frances Stewart, her sister, Russelline, her husband, Lawrence, and their children, Darryl, Lawranne, and David for a week's vacation. In addition, Mary Anne and Everette Weeks, and their children, Lee, Wendy, and Tuttie went with us. We rented a large house where we all stayed. I wish we had done more of it. Those are memories I cherish.
We saw the outdoor play, "The Lost Colony." The ladies went shopping and we men and boys fished off the Jennette's Pier. We caught lots of fish, had them cleaned and frozen for frying later.
I often fished with Russell Melvine's father when he and Frances came to see us. I think of nice fishing ponds and lakes in Conecuh County, AL, when I was a pastor at the Brownville P. H. Church. Farmers graciously allowed us to fish in their ponds or lakes. Then, when we moved to Athens, Georgia, we used to fish at Ronnie and Carol Moon's Oglethorpe lake. It was a beautiful lake. We used a small metal boat with a trolling motor. Melvine's dad really loved those days, and we took our lunch to eat on the boat.
Those days are gone.
People often ask me how I feel. For the last two days God has enabled me to get in touch with a feeling I will call fullness or fulfillment. That's a good feeling. A couple of days recently I felt sad and lonely. I guess these are stages of my person grief over the death of Melvine. I have not lost Melvine for I know where she is . . . she is in heaven with Jesus, and I believe she has seen our children who have died, her parents, her sister, brothers-in-law, etc.
I long to go there when God is ready to take me home.
