Sunday, May 19, began as we all got up earlier than usual on Sunday. I think it was because of our eagerness to attend morning worship at Christian Life Worship Center and our anticipation to see what God might do.
The singing and worship were deeply meaningful with a number of songs that we all knew. Arlette Revells played the piano, and Nick Moody played the guitar. They play their respective musical instruments with precision and with an anointing of the Holy Spirit.
We had a Gideon speaker today, James Watkins, from the Athens West Gideon Camp, as well as a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. He was by far the best Gideon speaker we have had. He told some incredible stories of how God is using Gideon Bibles to win people to Jesus Christ. My soul rejoiced as he told story after story about God's redeeming love. Melvine and I wanted to respond to the special offering. In as much as I did not bring our check book, I gave a cash donation and placed it in an offering envelope. Jim Cox is one of our ushers and he walks down the aisle where we sit. He is also a Gideon, and is quite active in his particular Gideon Camp.
Greg had purchased a 10 pound bag of Vidalia onions. I was able to place onions in several plastic shopping bags and gave them to those who would like them after church was over.
I was able to give myself an injection of insulin today. I think I am making some progress.
Wesley Peyton sent a message to our son Greg about Voltaren gel. He said his wife has used it for many years with success. He advised to keep on putting this gel on Melvine's hands, fingers, and thumbs.
This week's news has seen the death of several of our dear friends. One by one, they are leaving this world of sin and sorrow. Lee Goodrum has died. His father taught me at Emmanuel College in World History.
I was able to talk with Sandra Goodrum by phone by expressing our sincere love and condolences for her and her children.
I talked with several people by phone: Austin and Joyce Johnson Burnette, Blenda Pearson Smith, and several other people. Hazel Wilson was able to come to church after her recent back surgery. She is one of the most faithful ladies you will ever meet. It is always good to see and talk with Watson Fowler. I think he is 90 years old. He is one of our church greeters and ushers. He was a tailor for a suit clothing company. He would like to be assigned to making heavenly robes of pure linen when he gets to heaven.
Melvine and I have a number of doctor appointments, doctor's visits in his chambers, a Cat Scan for Melvine, and injections in my lower back by my pain management doctor, etc.
We need your prayers for Melvine and me, and for Greg who is finishing up teaching this week.
Thank you for your many kindnesses you have shown toward us.
