I have been to the White House several times. When I was a Marine at Quantico, VA, 1953-1956, I often found my way to Pennsylvania Avenue very near to the White House to get a ride back to the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, the Showcase of the Marine Corps.
Those were formative years of my life. It was at Quantico that God called me to be a chaplain. The vision God gave me I followed to fulfill. God helped me all the way.
In the process of time, I met Melvine Stewart of Draper, North Carolina. It was love at first sight. The rest is a beautiful story of love and perseverance. Melvine and I have been married now for over 59 years.
On Sunday, 13 October, we were privileged to go to our church. What a delight and joy it was to be in the House of the Lord. Fran Smith came by our home to pick us up and she drove us to Christian Life Worship Center.
It was Pastor Appreciation Sunday. Not only was our pastor, Terry Kesling and his wife, Pam, honored, but our children's church pastor, Matt Smith and his wife, Danielle, honored. To our surprise, Melvine and I were honored as well. We received a number of cards with money or gift cards inside the envelopes. The church gave us a lovely pot of mums in bloom.
We are grateful for those precious gifts from the people we dearly love and honor.
