Indianapolis, Ind. -- Emmanuel College junior Alex Sobers earned Emmanuel's first ever individual National Champion on the third night of the 2019 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
First, Sobers finished 1st in the finals of the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:21.09 to earn All-American.
Next, Thiago Rosa finished 14th in the 100 back with a 48.48 to earn All-American Honorable Mention.
Finally, Joao Santos finished 2nd in the 100 breast with a 52.95 to earn his first individual All-American honors.
Five Emmanuel College swimming student-athletes are competing on the big stage March 13-16. After day three, The Lions remain in 15th place with 73.5 points.
The men return to the pool Saturday morning at 10 a.m. for day four preliminaries (final day). The Lions have a big day of competition with Alex Sobers, Thiago Rosa, Joao Santos, and Igor Dantas all competing in the 400 free relay and the 100 individual freestyle. GO LIONS!
