Ramblin’ an’ Rumblin’ VII
Author: John Wayne Brady
Being sequestered, quarantined or sheltered in place has not really bothered this ole octogenarian of the 4th dimension. It seems that all my outings of late have been doctor’s appointments anyway. Since my CEO has been relative active in shopping for groceries and other essentials, she has a little down time away from the abode. Sparing an occasional tiff here and there, life for us seems to go on as usual.
With all the harangues regarding the present state of affairs concerning the national health of our country and the rest of the world, one finds comfort in reading the Word and listening to some renowned ministers about our circumstances and responding to disaster.
Disasters having been plaguing our world since the fall of Adam. In America, the people have learned how to respond to disasters, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc., and have proven themselves proficient in traversing through these setbacks and rebuilding afterward. People have come together to provide aid and acts of charity to alleviate the sufferings of those severely damaged by the disaster. We refer to these cataclysmic events that occur as being perpetrated on us by Mother Nature.
However, there is another factor that many are not willing to consider or accept. We have failed God and left Him out of the picture. Taking God out of our schools, making same sex marriage lawful, legalizing abortion, have destroyed the culture of a country that was founded on Judeo-Christian principles.
1905, David Brewer, U. S. Supreme Court Justice wrote … “we constantly speak of this republic as a Christian nation - in fact, as the leading Christian nation of the world. This popular use of the term certainly has significance. It is not a mere creation of the imagination. It is not a term of derision but has substantial basis - one which justifies its use.” (P xii The United States a Christian Nation). In spite of that fact, a recent president of the United States stated that America was not a Christian nation, (then inserted, not just a Christian nation, but clearly getting his point across). So it is evident how far we have deviated from the original intent of this ruling at the beginning of the 20th century and the intent of the founders of our great nation.
Some may say that lately we have been faced with so many terrible measures and now this pandemic. Is this just happenstance or is there some cause behind it? When considering this I am reminded of 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 which says, “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain or command the locust to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
I don’t believe that God sends plagues on this earth, but I do believe He loves us so much that He will allow these disruptions to come about to discipline nations because of national sins. It seems to me that the word NATIONAL should be emphasized here and not directed to the people within a nation.
So the answer to this dilemma appears to be verse 14 of the above passage, ”If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
What I think we should take from this is if, as a nation, we continue to commit the sins of idolatry, sexual immorality, sacrificing the unborn, without national repentance and turning to God, this pandemic could only be the precursor to even more cataclysmic trials ahead. God bless you and keep you safe.
