We are instructed in God's Holy Word, the Bible, to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
Psalm 122:6-9
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
"May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels."
8 For the sake of my brothers and friends,
I will say, "Peace be within you."
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your prosperity.
NIV
In the Book of Daniel we learn that Michael, the archangel has been assigned by Almighty God to be the defender or protector of Israel, "That's when Michael, the great angel-prince, champion of your people, will step in. It will be a time of trouble, the worst trouble the world has ever seen. But your people will be saved from the trouble, every last one found written in the Book.
