FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA -- The Emmanuel College men's basketball team defeated conference opponent Barton on Saturday afternoon, 86-76 in the Williamson Basketball Arena. This win marks the second win over Barton as the Lions defeated them 88-71 in their first meetup on December 8th. The Lions now have a record of 15-6 overall, 8-0 conference.
The Lions were off to a great start in the first half, gaining a quick 10 point lead behind sharp shooting from Senior Austin Greene and a dominant presence from Kendrick Colvin. The team combined for 41 points in the first half, leading Barton by 9.
After returning from half time, the Bulldogs began to put pressure on the Lions. Their shooting improved as they slowly crept within scoring distance. Finally, with ten minutes left on the clock, Barton took their first lead of the night at 51-50. Despite a few more lead changes, the Lions never faced a deficit larger than 1 point. Emmanuel retaliated with a solid performance late in the second and began to pull away again. The Lions created another ten point gap and forced the Bulldogs to foul. After making the necessary shots, Emmanuel closed out the game 86-76.
Austin Greene led the Lions with 24 points. Kendrick Colvin followed up with a double-double, 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lions will continue action on Monday, January 21st with a home game against North Greenville University at 7:30 p.m. The Lions won 76-63 in their first meetup of the season.
