Melvine had layed down to go to sleep in early afternoon on Tuesday, January 29. The telephone rang and it was a call from the Physician's Assistant, Anna McFarther, at the University Cancer and Blood Center.
Anna told me that she knew we were eager to get the report on Melvine's hospital visit to have an MRI done on her brain, and to have chest X-Rays. She said I have good news, the brain scan revealed nothing of any problem. The X-Rays show nothing of any concern, no sign of pneumonia or other issue." I exclaimed, "Praise the Lord, Hallelujah!"
Anna was interested in knowing how Melvine is doing. I told her that Melvine has shortness of breath from walking a few steps, she continues to have a cough for which I am treating with medicine and cough syrup prescribed by our family doctor.
I told her that Melvine tells me that she constantly hurts in her lower stomach. I asked if this pain was from the ovarian cancer. She responded by saying she didn't know. I told Anna that I gave Melvine an additional pain medication to help her.
Today, Tuesday, I washed and dried the sheets and pillow cases on our bed. Melvine helped me to put on the fitted sheet and spread the other sheet, put on the pillow cases for our pillows, and to pull up the comforter. We have a clean and fresh bed to sleep in tonight.
I will have to get up at the crack of dawn and get ready to go to Athens to the Surgery Center of Athens, GA on Wednesday morning. I learned today, Tuesday, that my eyelid surgery is at 9:45 a.m. and I have to be there at 8:45 a.m. Bonnie Bender will come to our home to go with me to the surgery center and drive me home from surgery. I will not be able to drive, or do any work for several days. Claudia Strickland, a dear friend of our family, will be here at 9 to stay with Melvine while I am gone to have surgery.
I need your prayers. I cannot eat or drink anything, not even drink any water after midnight, nor can I take any medicine until after surgery.
I am somewhat anxious tonight as I think about it. I hope it goes well and there will be no mishaps. I have a good surgeon. I like him. He is Korean American and I believe he is a Christian.
Please remember both Melvine and me in prayer. Greg needs your prayers too. He doesn't like it that he cannot be here to help us. He comes every weekend and is a great help to us. We are blessed to have a wonderful son who enjoys helping his mother and me.
I don't know if I can do a Hugh's News for Thursday or Friday. We will just wait and see.
Your friend in all seasons,
Hugh
