Holy Week for Melvine was a horrendous week. There were so many things that happened.
I think she would like be left alone for a day or so. She has been pensive and somewhat passive for the last two days. She talks very little. I think she chooses to be silent.
The physical therapist was noticing on Friday that when Melvine walks in the house she doesn't get out of breath like she used to. Melvine walked to the bathroom, and showed the therapist she can get in and out of bed. Melvine knows how to go from her walker to her recliner with ease. She did the leg exercises well. She checked out her balance with her eyes open and then closed. Then, she had her do a complete turn around slowly. Julie, the therapist, will be coming to our home twice a week for three weeks. She believes that Melvine made a lot of progress at the Oaks Rehab Center for some 13 days.
Our immediate goal is to attend morning worship at Christian Life Worship Center on Easter Sunday.
My goal is to get Melvine strong enough so we can travel to her home town, Draper Village in Eden, NC. for a weekend. We want to see family members in Virginia near by in Martinsville, Bassett and Collinsville, and to rendezvous with Daneel and Betty Von Moore le Roux who live in Greenville, NC. Betty Von was Melvine's next door neighbor. Daneel was the best man in our wedding. He introduced Melvine to me or me to Melvine. Daneel is a white man from South Africa. His father was a judge. He is a true African/American and he speaks Afrikaans -- a language developed from 17th century Dutch that is one of the official languages of the Republic of South Africa. Daneel went through the process to become an American citizen and what a tremendous contribution he has made in education, especially Holmes Bible College, and in the business world.
We all like to dine at Fisherman's Galley in Eden. They have the best seafood in the known world. Doyle and Sherrill Marley love it, too, and we have dined with them there. We want Doris Jean Troxler to dine with us that Saturday night. She and her deceased sister, Frances, have been very close friends of ours over the years. We have eaten many a good meal at their home. Fran could cook the best country fried steak you have ever eaten. She was marvelous cook and we loved to talk with her. She has personality plus and for years taught the kindergartners in their church. Children loved Fran. We greatly miss Fran. We plan to see her in heaven one day with her dear parents we loved too.
Of course, we love to worship at the Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church, Melvine's home church and where we were married on Saturday, August 13, 1960. Vinson and Carol Lee Synan were married that same day in Richmond, VA. And of course, you know that Billy and Ruth Graham were married on August 13 in the late 40s. So, now you know of three great men who married their respective wife (singular) on August 13.
- She came home from the Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Athens, GA on Tuesday.
- She had an appointment with her oncologist, Dr. Jane Huang, on Wednesday.
- She had am appointment with our family doctor on Thursday.
- She had a visit from the St. Mary's Home Health Care nurse on Thursday.
- She had a visit from the St. Mary's Home Health Care physical therapist on Good Friday.
