Melvine is overjoyed to have our son, Greg, home for good. Saturday, June 29th was Greg's fifty-fifth birthday, a double nickle. Because Melvine and I were unable to shop for Greg's birthday present as we have in the past, we gave him money and a nice birthday card to celebrate his birthday. He is a very special guy to us and we love him dearly. He is committed to helping us in our golden years with the things we need. And he does his work with love, patience, respect, and compassion.
He always goes to get our breakfast on Saturday. Today, he got our breakfast biscuits from Dairy Queen, and the hash browns from McDonald's. I love their sausage and egg biscuits at Dairy Queen. Greg fixed me a cup of coffee.
We enjoy hearing Greg play the piano we gave him many years ago. He plays classical and popular music as well as the great hymns of the church. In my office, I have a tape player with organ music by Mark Bristow, the organist for many of Jerry B. Walker's Crusades.
Today, I heard a phrase that caught my attention. It went like this:
"From an Oklahoma Cowgirl to a Georgia Peach."
That unique saying brought back many wonderful memories of living in Oklahoma City and attending Muse Memorial Church when Bill and Bette Anderson were our pastors. The worship was magnificent and the Holy Spirit was in control as God used some highly gifted musicians to lead us into high praise and worship. We dearly love those people whose lives and friendship greatly enriched our lives, and we are grateful. They are friends for life. We love the westerners.
Through careful monitoring of Melvine's medication and the added small dose of insulin, her blood sugar has come down to normalcy for which we are grateful. God is at work in our lives. Melvine has come a long ways since last September when she was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. To God we give all the glory, honor, and praise due to His wonderful Name.
We confess that Jesus Christ is our Healer. In fact, He still makes House Calls.
On Saturdays Melvine enjoys watching the cooking shows. Her favorite is the Pioneer Woman. We watch Fox News, but watch Wheel of Fortunate and Jeopardy on NBC.
I am trying to read four books all at the same time, while endeavoring to keep my Bible reading up like I feel like I want it daily.
Greg has asked us to go to his church today where he plays piano for the good people of the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church. I sense Greg is on a mission there in obedience to God to minister to them in music.
We will accept Greg's invitation and support him in his ministry.
We would like to eat Sunday dinner at LongHorn Steak House in Bethlehem after church.
Sundays are important to us when we always want to be in the House of the Lord.
Of course, we will miss our church, Christian Life Worship Center in Athens.
We want to thank you again for your many prayers for Melvine as well as for Greg and me. Prayer has made a difference.
Thank you, too, for your many cards and letters, as well as phone calls and emails.
