Melvine couldn't have chosen a better oncologist than a Chinese/American doctor than Dr. Jane Huang. She is one of the neatest ladies you will ever meet. She is petite, jolly, optimistic, and kind. She is highly intelligent and knows her medicine with regard to cancer patients. I love her first of all because she is Chinese. My love for Chinese people is deep within my spiritual DNA. My best friend in the Marine Corps Band at Quantico, VA was Chinese/American. His name was Eddie Dong.
Melvine is responding well thus far to chemotherapy. Her vital signs were good, and her weight has been stabilized. Because she is anemic they gave her a shot of Vitamin B12. She continues to take medicine for a high level of potassium, and Saturday is the last day to drink the liquid prescribed medicine to flush out the potassium. Melvine's lungs are clear and there is no sign of pneumonia. She continues to have a nagging cough that just won't let go. She is taking medication for it.
I believe that today's chemotherapy was Melvine's eight treatment. She has one more before they will do a CAT Scan to see how the ovarian cancer has responded to the chemotherapy.
Jeanette Herndon Phillips met us and was with us the whole time. In fact, she got us coffee and then went to McDonald's to get sausage, egg, and cheese McMuffins. The egg is a poached egg. However, they failed to give us one. You know what that is like. I am sure it has happened to you. Such is life. We smiled realizing this omission is a part of the human predicament.
We drove through the drive-in at Burger King and got lunch. We ordered onion rings with a junior whopper and a regular whopper loaded. We ate only one onion ring as we drove away from there.
When we got home, I gave Melvine some cough syrup for her cough. She lay down and went to sleep, but not for long.
Greg got home a little after 5 o'clock for his drive from Thomson, GA where he teaches music. Greg freshened up, changed clothes and Greg drove us to our church for our annual Men's and Women's Ministries Christmas dinner with Chris Maxwell as our featured speaker. He did a marvelous job talking about the visit of the Angel Gabriel who came to the Virgin Mary and announced that "she was highly favored and would bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end" (Luke 1:31-33, NKJV).
We had many drawings and everyone present won a special gift. At close of the evening, Pastor Terry Kesling and the worship team led us in singing Christmas carols accompanied by Nancy Till on the piano. Kenneth Phillips was our emcee, and he is a dandy.
