In the '50s I used to hitchhike. That was my mode of transportation.
When I was a freshman at Emmanuel College, 1952-53 I hitchhiked from Birmingham, Alabama to Franklin Springs Georgia to attend Emmanuel College. God always gave me good people who took me where I needed to go. I am now aware that God watched over me and dispatched His guarding angels to protect me.
Later, when I was in Marine Corps at Quantico, VA, I hitchhiked to Washington, DC, to attend the National Pentecostal Holiness Church for Sunday school and worship. God granted me favor and success.
Little did I know that at the age of almost 87 I would be asking for others to drive Melvine and me to church on Sundays.
I sensed that it is not safe for me to continue driving my car. So,I have made the decision to ground myself, and for the time being I will not drive any car.
Today, I talked it over with Melvine about whom I should ask to take us to church. I have found that it is a good thing for Melvine to be in agreement with me and me with her. I suggested that I call Fran Smith and she wholeheartedly agreed. So, I called Fran, and she will come to our home and pick us up at 10:30 a.m. We want to be there to honor our pastors for today, October 13, is Pastor Appreciation Day.
After Greg's church is over he will drive into Athens, Georgia, and get us. I think we will stay for lunch or Sunday dinner in Stephanie's Place, our church fellowship hall when we, as a congregation, will dine together.
When I was a pastor and active in the church I often would say, "When I am no longer a pastor, I plan to be the pastor's best friend."
Melvine and I have decided on what we will give to bless our pastors and their wives on this Pastor Appreciation Day. I hope you are giving too to bless your pastors and their wives.
