John 4:4 Jesus' Mission to a despised Samaritan
And He must needs go through Samaria.
KJV
Jesus needed to make room for this Samaritan woman, as well as the people in the city.
Winning a city for Christ and His Kingdom begins with just one person. Our Lord began the encounter with this woman who was shunned by the women of the city by asking for a favor. He asked her to draw Him a drink of water. She countered, pushed back, and challenged Jesus about His being a Jew and was willing to talk to a Samaritan. There was animosity between the Jews and the Samaritans. Jesus disarmed her wall of prejudice. He did not condemn her but helped her to recognize her sins and her need to be forgiven. She opened the door of her heart and asked for the living water He offered.
How can we reach people like her? What is our evangelism status like? When was the last time we led someone to the Lord Jesus Christ? Sharing what God has done in our lives when He saved us is a wonderful way of telling the greatest news in all the world. I don't think she ever gave Jesus a drink of water. She left her water bucket at the well.
Where did she go when she went into the city? Certainly not to the women who had shunned and talked derogatorily about with a righteousness of their own. No, she went to the men. She is brilliant. She didn't tell the men what she believed about Jesus. She knew that a woman dare not tell a man anything for they would reject it. Instead she asked this question: "Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?"
John 4:28-30
The woman then left her water pot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 "Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?" 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.
