The first time I heard the Gospel hymn "How Great Thou Art" was as Asbury College in 1957. The Billy Graham evangelistic team came to our campus and ministered in our chapel service in Hughes Auditorium. George Beverly Shea sang this great hymn as a solo and it captured the hearts of all the students, over 1,000.
Another George, George Chassevent, a friend of mine who is a member of our church in Athens, Georgia, Christian Life Worship Center, sent me this video of this all-vocal country band. Using nothing but their voices, Home Free sings "How Great Thou Art" amid gorgeous background scenery. I hope you will enjoy their singing. The following are the lyrics to "How Great Thou Art"
The lyrics to "How Great Thou Art" were written by Carl Boberg.
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Refrain:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
Refrain
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
Refrain
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Refrain
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
