I wanted to inform you that I am scheduled to have a total right hip replacement on Thursday, November 10, at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA.
After months of x-rays, consultations, and a lot of constant pain, my orthopedic surgeon, who had done a total right knee replacement in 2012, and I agreed that the first thing I must have done is to do a total right hip replacement. My left knee that hurts daily, will have to wait its turn. My back is a mess, and I don't want any surgeon in the known world operating on it and placing metal bars in the vertebra.
In the meantime, I now have gout in my left pinky finger. Two doctors diagnosed it. The finger is badly swollen, and I am in great pain as compose these words on my keyboard. My feet are swollen and I suffer pain there, and I am not sleeping well due to sharp pains. My family doctor has prescribed medication to being the pain and welling down.
I have competed my pre-op at St. Mary's Hospital. The last person I saw in a long and extensive ordeal was my anesthesiologist. He was my anesthesiologist when I had my knee surgery. He will do a spinal block. He said he was eager to hear me preach and share the Gospel while Dr. Mahoney does the operation.
Until I recover, there will not be any Hugh's News coming your way. I have no one trained and prepared to take over this newsletter. That day will come when I must give it up. In January 2017, should I be alive, and I hope I will, I will be celebrating 20 years of producing Hugh's News. I am grateful that God has chosen and called me to this journalistic ministry that serves IPHC Ministries and the Body of Christ, world wide. It all started with 13 subscribers--all were our active duty military chaplains. It has grown exponentially because God's hand has been and is upon this evangelical/Pentecostal electronic newsletter. And because of God's amazing grace He has sustained it, and you my readers have enabled me to pay the bills promptly all of these years.
I am so grateful for everyone of you who read Hugh's News. It is my pleasure and delight to serve you. I am grateful for your prayers for me. And pray too for Melvine who has to put up with me, as well as our son, Greg. I will not know until Wednesday afternoon the time of my surgery on Thursday.
