The day began early for me. I had awakened before 7. I checked my emails and I found several emails in my inbox. One was from Russell Board in Japan. Then, I got a call from Bishop Leon O. Stewart wishing Melvine and me a happy wedding anniversary. As soon as that call had concluded I received a phone call from the Rev. Dr. Larry Jones, the Little Bishop of the South Carolina Conference. The archives committee and the memoirs committee were meeting today. They wished Melvine and me a blessed anniversary, and then each one spoke to me and told me who they are. I had never had that kind of thing happen before. What a blessing to know the good folks in the South Carolina Conference love us.
I got a call from Jon Potter who pastors the Canvass Pentecostal Holiness Church in Birmingham. God is doing some exciting things there. His church congregation is growing and they are looking at a new building site which they hope to purchase. I want to invest in this church plant. I believe in Jon Potter. He is the son of the late Wesley Potter, former superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference, and senior pastor of King's Way Pentecostal Holiness Church in Baltimore, Maryland. I am excited for Jon and Lisa Potter and his congregation.
If you live in Birmingham or Hoover you may want to contact Jon and Lisa Potter. Here is Jon's phone number: (205) 410-1477. Or you may contact his administrative assistant at (205) 393-1022.
Daneel le Roux, the man who introduced me to Melvine and Melvine to me called and sang "Happy Wedding Anniversary to Melvine and me." What a blessing Daneel has been to us over the years. Betty, his wife, was Melvine's next door neighbor when they were growing up. Her father, Melvin Moore was an executive with Field Crest Mills. They moved to Greenville, NC.
Lonnie Rex called me from Spring, TX to wish Melvine and me a blessed day. Brenda Terry called to wish Melvine and me a wonderful anniversary dinner.
There were many other calls and emails as well as anniversary cards.
We invited Greg to go with us to dinner/supper. In fact, he drove us to the restaurant.
Melvine looked charming. Her hair looks cut. The left side of her hair is in curls as well as the back of her hair.
Melvine was alert and engaged me in conversation. She asked me how many more anniversaries I thought we would have. I told her that I would live to be 95 and she would live to be 93. Then, I said, "Melvine, how many more wedding anniversaries do you believe we will have together?" She apparently had been thinking about it. Her answer was 5 more years. We talked about a lot of things and we laughed from time to time as we remembered some funny things in our lives. Melvine often gets tickled or laughs at the things I do. I like for her to do that. Melvine is a fun loving person. She is an excellent teacher.
Melvine chose the restaurant. LongHorns is one of her favorites. It is much closer than driving into Athens, although we love to do that.
Thank you all for praying for us this year and blessing us with so many cards, letters, and emails not only get-well cards, but anniversary cards too.
