I was born in Birmingham at the Hilman Hospital, now a small building in the massive University of Alabama Medical Center. I grew up in Birmingham, known as the Pittsburgh of the South because of our steel mills.
The youth of Birmingham flocked to Cascade Plunge every summer to swim. It had an enormous swimming pool with a 15 or 20 feet high diving board. I never had the courage to dive off that platform, but I did muster up enough courage to jump off it, and I did so multiple times.
Howard Alexander was my best friend. We both had newspaper routes where we made money throwing the newspaper, The Birmingham News and The Birmingham Post Herald.
Howard, his sister, Juanita, and I rode our bicycles to Cascade Plunge from Woodlawn were we lived on 10th Avenue and 47th Street to East Lake. It was breath taking for us. I consider Juanita my little sister, and we called her Sis. Howard and I went all out to protect her and see after her welfare and happiness.
As I have reflected on the challenge I have given you, my dear readers, I have revised the number of people we need from 150 to 120. I did that to make it come into alignment and agreement with the number of disciples that were present on the Day of Pentecost in the Upper Room in Jerusalem when they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
Hugh's News needs 120 people to give $10 per month to support a growing newsletter.
Here is how it can happen for you:
Allen Clark, a Vietnam hero, has this to say: "I decided years ago to support Dr. Hugh Morgan's work through a personal monthly contribution. It is easy to accomplish for me because I set up with my bank a fixed amount each month that is called a draw and mailed to Hugh's News, Inc., 17 Sweet Apple Lane, Winder, GA 30680. My Bank of America has a service in which they send out payments for my personal bills also. Readers, who appreciate Hugh News, could do the same with whatever amount, however small, on a monthly basis."
The Bible declares this truth:
Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
KJV
I know something about gardening and farming. I have done both. What a joy it is to see crops produce 100 fold and more, and some less.
Recently, this thought came to me while talking with a friend about the financial needs of Hugh's News, Inc.:
