Leroy Baker and his lovely wife, Evelyn, reside in Yukon, OK. After many years of ministry they have downsized and purchased a smaller home in a gated community in Yukon. They continue to minister and preach the Gospel as they are invited.
Recently they preached in one of our strong Pentecostal Holiness Churches in Austin, TX that was planted during the time Leroy was the superintendent of the Texas Conference.
Leroy is the writer of "God's Got An Army." It's a song we used to sing. This Gospel song captured the hearts of people all over the world and they were singing it too.
Leroy is known as Mr. Camp Meeting Preacher. He has probably preached more camp meetings than any other preacher in modern times. We enjoyed Leroy and Evelyn, and their children, Karlene, Curtis and Chris, at the River Springs Camp Meeting in Alabama (near McKenzie) for 5 years in a row. The tabernacle was filled night after night. The altar services were blessed of God and many were saved, sanctified and baptized with the Holy Spirit. The Bakers are all good singers and musicians. Evelyn is an excellent pianist. Leroy can pick the guitar.
Leroy served as the assistant Evangelism Director for a number of years for the IPHC, and was the radio speaker of the IPHC National Radio Broadcast. I used to hear him preach on the radio on Sundays when driving from our home in Oklahoma City to worship at Music Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church when I was president of Southwestern College, now renamed Southwestern Christian University.
Some years later Leroy served as the president of Southwestern College and it was during his administration that he saved the college by moving the campus from Northwest 10th Street to the campus where our church headquarters is located.
Leroy and Evelyn Baker's influence is far-reaching. His sermons have been published in Hugh's News.
I consider Leroy to one of my three closest friends in the known world:
Lonnie Rex -- met in 1954
Wesley Russ -- met in 1964
Leroy Baker -- met in 1974
These are friendships that have endure the test of time.
May God bless these men and their families.
