God is Our Source
Author: Hugh H. Morgan'
A powerful experience happens when we are able to believe that God is our Source
Jesus told His disciples that "apart from Him they could do nothing"(John 15:5). We know that intellectually, but don't often practice it.
Trying to do the work of the Kingdom and the church in our own strength will be fruitless. We must have the mind of Christ, and His vision for the ministry He has foreordained for us to accomplish.
I have known that God is my Source for a long time. However, it was only this week when I listened to two people prophesying that is grabbed me and I truly believed it deep within my inmost being.
The Scripture that leaped out at me became a Rhema Word from the Logos Word. It is recorded in 2 Chronicles 20:20:
2 Chronicles 20:20-23
20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper." 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:
"Praise the Lord,
For His mercy endures forever."
22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 23 For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.
NKJV
First of all, we are to believe in the Lord our God and when we do we shall be established. For me that means that I am to trust and obey Him. He will establish my life and destiny. It is my desire to do the Will of God and fulfill the ministry He had given me to do.
Second, we are to embrace the gifts of the Spirit. I am a Pentecostal. I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. Shortly after I received the Baptism with the Holy Spirit, I discovered that God had given me a devotional tongue. God has revealed things that I could have not known without that exercise of praying in the Spirit and waiting for the interpretation from glory. Jude wrote, "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20, NKJV).
Not only are we to believe the Lord our God, but we are to believe His prophets. God instructs us that we will prosper when we believe God's prophets. The Apostle Paul has this to say about prophecy: "But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort" (1 Cor 14:3, NIV).
I am grateful for the promise God gives to us about providing for our needs. I am to look to Him as my Source for what God wants to give to me and the ministry He has so graciously given to me.
At this Thanksgiving Season I am thankful for all you who are subscribers to Hugh’s News & Commentary. My prayer is that I may be able to share with you inspirational messages and news you may not get elsewhere. I enjoy giving you a benediction at the close of every newsletter. The statement "Will You Receive the Benediction?" I learned from my preaching professor at Asbury Theological Seminary. When I was a pastor, Air Force chaplain, and president of Southwestern College (now Southwestern Christian University) I would lift up my hands as high as I could (I stand 6 feet and 4 inches tall, look at the congregation on all sides, pause for several moments, and ask, "Will You Receive the Benediction?" Then, I would pronounce the Scriptural benediction, or the Irish benediction. I enjoy memorizing benedictions in the Bible. When I do, God blesses His Word and His people.
Here is the Scripture for that recorded or written in the Book of Numbers, Chapter 6, verses 22-27:
Numbers 6:22-27
22 The Lord said to Moses, 23 "Tell Aaron and his sons, 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
24 "'"The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25 the Lord make His face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace."
27 "So they will put My Name on the Israelites, and I will bless them."
NIV
Above all, I want to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all who may read Hugh’s News. I want to do my part in proclaiming the Gospel to the world. When I do the Holy Spirit will take that Word and convict the world of sin and judgment to come. Jesus did not come into the world to condemn sinners but that all though Him might be saved (John 3:16-17).
I am grateful for those who are contributing writers for Hugh’s News, and for various ministries who have given me permission to publish their articles and messages.
Thank you for being a loyal subscriber to Hugh’s News.
May this Thanksgiving Season be the best ever for you and your family.
