Friday was the fifth time Melvine has received chemotherapy. It is much easier to get the IV's started and sustained because of a tiny instrument called a Port that has been embedded in the right side of Melvine's chest.
The x-rays taken of her chest and lungs revealed no pneumonia or any infection. Her lungs were clear. However, the cough lingers on, and is a nuisance to say the least.
Bonnie Patch Bender, a retired LPN and dear friend, was waiting for us with a wheelchair as we waiting in line of several vehicles bringing patients for various treatments at the University Cancer and Blood Center. After the techs weighed her, checked her vital signs, and took blood, we were given a room assignment to meet with Anna McFather, our favorite PA. She has made a lasting impression on us because of the excellent spirit that is in her.
Bonnie is a God-send. We could not have found anyone so faithful to help me care for Melvine. She has been with us on most visits to the clinic and other doctor appointments. She brings love, life, and cheer, and she always encourages me by telling me that I am doing a good job in caring for Melvine.

After Melvine got settled in in the treatment room and the IV's were dripping into long tubes to Melvine's port, and a cup of coffee that Bonnie prepared for Melvine and me, I left to have the air pressure checked in my car, a message was on the dashboard telling me I needed to have the air pressure checked. So, I drove over to the Bulldog Car Wash on the Atlanta Highway and had that taken care of as well as a car wash. It's nice to have a clean car inside and out.
I came home for a short time to take care of some business items, and Bonnie called and told me that Melvine should be through with her chemotherapy within 45 minutes. So, I timed my departure from home and the drive to match the approximate time Bonnie would have Melvine outside in a wheelchair. I did one thing right today, I arrived as Bonnie was wheeling her out of the building.
When we arrived home, Melvine read the lovely get-well cards that had come in the mail.
Greg called as we got inside our home and he was leaving his school in Thomson, Georgia to drive home. He arrived on time and had a smooth and safe ride home.
Melvine wanted Chili from Wendy's and so Greg went for us and got a baked potato, butter, sour cream, and saltine crackers for the chili. It was delicious and so good
Melvine watched her favorite shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. I took her vital signs and gave her the medications prescribed by her doctors.
She was tired and went on to bed. She is sleeping as I composed this article.
