A Little Wisdom from Bluebirds & Friends with Arlette
How marvelous was the sight just outside our back door on the deck railing! I had the privilege of observing finch parents teaching their little ones how to feed themselves. They had found the seeds my husband faithfully puts out every morning for the little creatures. Until the baby birds realized the parents were teaching them a new way to eat, they continued to beg to be fed. Once they caught on, a life of independence began to open new adventures for them.

Do you have memories of life lessons your parents taught you? I do. I remember many lessons. One was when Mother started teaching me how to shop for the family groceries. I felt all grown up. To this day I still buy a sirloin tip roast and love hoop cheese.
But all the lessons weren't easy. At dinner one night I decided I would like to try a glass of buttermilk. I had observed my parents drinking buttermilk. They made it look so good.
"You may not like the taste," my dad cautioned, "so pour only a small amount to see if you like it." I was so sure that I was going to love it that I announced, "Oh, I'll drink a whole glass full!"
"All right," Dad said. "Remember that you will have to drink all that you pour." "I will," I assured him as I continued to pour until my tall glass was filled. The glass was so full that I had to be careful not to spill the milk as I brought the glass to my lips. With my first swallow, I knew I shouldn't have poured the glass full! I tried not to gag as I forced the rest of the milk down. That was a big life lesson for me. To this day I remember the lesson well.
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when
they are old they will not turn from it. (Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)).
Can you think of any life lessons you learned as a child that you're thankful for?
