Franklin Springs, GA - The lady lions swim season kicked off at home with the Conference Carolina's relay meet on Saturday, October 1st, 2016 at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA.
Coach Gilchrest commented; "I am so excited for our ladies 1st place start for the season! This is the first time our women have won an invitational. I am so proud of our ladies, they won 7 out of the 10 relays against very strong conference Carolina's competition. We give God the Glory!"
The relays started with the 300 fly relay – Gonzalez, Johnstone, Harkness (3:02.51) finishing 1st place and Dawes, Duarte, Tobo (3:19.44) finishing 5th. Followed by the 300 back with Calka, Ostojska, and Tobo (3:01.94) also placing 1st and Burtt, Curtright and Whitaker (4:00.54) placing 4th. Next, the 300 breaststroke included Duarte, Tamblyn, Calka (3:38.02) placing with the third 1st place for the day, followed by Whitaker, Burtt, Queen (4:28.02) placing 6th.
The women's 800 free relay including Harkness, Johnstone, Dawes, and Tobo (8:09.96) placed 1st. Followed by the women's 500-yard relay free with Queen, Burtt, Curtright, and Whitaker (6:02.90) placing 6th. The 200 free relay included Johnstone, Tamblyn, Calka, and Ostojska (1:43.54) placed 3rd and setting a new EC school record. The 1500 free relay with Harkness, Dawes, and Johnstone (16:23.75) placed 1st followed by Duarte, Ostojska and Gonzalez (17:08.30) placing 2nd. Gonzalez, Whitaker, Queen, and Tamblyn (52.28) finished 2nd in the women's 100 yard free relay.
The 400 medley relay included Calka, Tamblyn, Gonzalez, and Ostojska (4:09.74) placed 1st. Finally Duarte, Harkness, Dawes, and Tobo (4:23.95) placed 1st in the 400 medley relay.
The lady lions are home again this Saturday, October 8th, in a Quad meet vs. Bethel University, Point University and Campbellsville University. Meet starts at 11am. GO LIONS!
