Many years ago when I was a pastor and preaching and teaching my congregation the Word of God, I discovered a magnificent prayer that Nehemiah prayed after he had fasted and prayed for 21 days.
During those days, he prayed a prayer of repentance for his nation and for himself who had sinned against a holy God. He asked for God's favor and success as he was to go before the king. Let's see what Nehemiah prayed:
Nehemiah 1:11
O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering Your Name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man."
I was cupbearer to the king.
NIV
Nehemiah prepared himself spiritually and mentally as he appeared before King Artaxerxes. It is interesting to note that the queen was sitting by his side in chapter 2 and verse 6. Surely God had her there because of her tenderness and compassion to advice her husband. He asked for a leave of absence to take a contingent of Jews back to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls. God granted Nehemiah favor and success and more. He sent a small army, a cavalry, to escort him and those who would travel to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of the city that had been torn down and the gates burned with fire.. God always gives us more than we ask. He is the God of the Plus and Plenty.
I said all of that to prepare you for an incident on Friday of this past week where God showed me favor. I was not expecting it. I had driven to the McDonald's in Winder to get two biscuits, a sausage and egg biscuit and a sausage. The lady on the speaker phone told me that it would be $3.65. I thanked her, and drove around to pay. She smiled broadly and said you are the 25th customer since a certain time, just before 10 a. m. and your breakfast is free. I told her that was the favor of the Lord and I lifted my hands and thanked God for His favor. I did the same thing when the lady gave me my bag of biscuits. This special favor gave me an opportunity to share my faith with those two ladies.
I have learned over the years that when anything happens that I perceive to be favor, I pause to give praise to God. I have learned and continue to learn that His blessings of favor will continue to flow in my life.
May I suggest to you that you look for God's favor and success in your life. Believe me, you will.
