Associate Editor Greg Morgan More than 100,000 mourners were at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona for the funeral of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA. It was held eleven days after his assassination at Utah Valley University.
Many people spoke including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In addition, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth called Charlie Kirk's death a "turning point for the USA."
I saw Bible teacher Andrew Wommack, an American televangelist and founder of Charis Bible College, and Pastor Jentezen Franklin of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia in the crowd. Kirk's Pastor Rob McCoy spoke of his deep relationship with Kirk who co-founded Turning Point Faith USA in 2021.
Erika Kirk, Charlie's widow, received a standing ovation. She impressed me greatly when she publicly forgave her husband's assassin.
I was blessed by the Christian music as well as the singing of the national anthem, and I always love to hear "God Bless the USA" as only Lee Greenwood can sing it.
There were no riots or violence in the audience, but rather a calm and respectful unity among everyone. Christian television, including TBN and Fox News, carried the event.
Charlie Kirk was a champion of helping high school and college students recognize faulty liberal ideas and be able to defend the conservative viewpoint. Although Kirk was a college dropout, he wrote several books and in 2023 read some 40 books. I heard him say that he encouraged people to read 50 books a year on different topics, and to also read the Bible daily. He observed the Sabbath day every week to slow down and get re-energized for his upcoming events.
President Trump and many others consider Charlie Kirk a martyr, someone who dies for his or her faith. After viewing a number of YouTube videos, I noticed that Charlie Kirk was unapologetic about his Christian faith and was even considered an evangelist by many.
