I want you to know that I deliberately took yesterday off, my birthday, and did not send a Hugh's News on the 15th of December.
Today is Melvine's birthday. It is amazing that our birthdays are only one day a part and so close to Christmas.
I will take Melvine out to a leisurely breakfast to a place of her choosing. Then, Friday evening, we will dine with our son. Greg, at LongHorns Steak Restaurant in Bethlehem not far from where we live in Winder.
Melvine and I want to thank you for your birthday cards, gifts to Hugh's News, and many kind words. Several have called us to wish us a happy birthday. Bishop D. Chris Thompson, my former boss, i. e. the Chairman of Chaplains Ministries called and wished me a happy birthday as well as Melvine. He and I bonded and I was privileged to work with him and continue the minstry as the director/encorser of Chaplains Ministries, IPHC, after Dr. Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr. was elected the General Superintendent of the IPHC, and he because our new chairman. Betty, his wife, sends out birthday cards as well as anniversary cards to all of our chaplains and their spouses. What a wonderful ministry Betty Thompson has.
We had visitors yesterday. We were blessed to have a visit from Krissy McKenzie and her younest son, David. David had completed a modern art painting for my birthay. He is 10 years old. He wanted to know where I would hang it. He will make a good salesman. I knows how to get a person to sign on the dotted line.
Ken Phillips came as well and brought us each a bag of fruit, candy, and chewing gum. Ken has prepared bag with fruit, nuts and candy every year for many years. He enlisted his grandchildren, twins to help him--Caden and Haley. He gave us a lovely birthday card from Lauren, Slade, Caden, and Haley Fleming and Ken, Jeanette and Tyler Phillips. It's wonderful to have church friends. Melvine, Greg, and I were not able to attend Wednesday night church because of medical reasons. Normally we would have been present.
Shakeenan Gurley, wife of Russell Gurley, and her daughter, Reagan, a nine year old beautiful and bright girl, called, and Reagan sang happy birthday to Melvine and me. The children at our church call us Meme and Dodah. Others called and talked with Melvine like Joyce Johnson Burnette, and Claudia Strickland.
Joyce Hawkins called after she got off from work to wish me a happy birthday. She is a friend of our family and was a speical friend of our Stephanie. Joyce is a teacher in Jackson County.
