When Charles and I married in 1992, we had four children between us. It was very important to include in our wedding ceremony a unity candle. But it was not the traditional 3 candelabra. It held seven candles. One each for Charles and myself and one for each of our children. When it came time for the lighting of the Christ candle, we each took our candle and the six of us lit the Christ candle together.
That symbolic gesture, along with a commitment to Jesus Christ, was the beginning of the "new" family. The next year God cemented our family by sending us a baby girl. She became the hub of the family because she was everyone's half sister and our child. Praise God for his grace through the years!! We are not a family of his, hers and ours--we are simply a family blended by, through and with the constant love and assistance of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!
